Jameela Jamil’s Ongoing Fight Against Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome And Her Openness About Her Unrealistic Elasticity
One of the advantages of being an actress and always in the limelight is that you have better reach when making people aware of new causes. And this is what British actress Jameela Jamil is keen on doing as she finally and candidly talks about her ongoing fight against Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
Jameela aims to raise better awareness about this hereditary and rare medical condition.
Last Tuesday, the 36-year-old media personality posted a lengthy video. She also showed how elastic her face had become as one of the side effects of the syndrome, whose main target is the body’s connective tissues.
According to the beautiful presenter, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a dangerous condition, especially if left undiagnosed. This is one of the primary reasons why she wanted people to be more aware that such a condition exists.
Pulling her cheeks, Jameela started her video by saying, “Hi, look at this, Jesus Christ, and this is not an app or filter. It’s my face. Look at how elastic that is. The reason it’s so elastic is because I have EDS, I have HEDS three, the H because I’m so hyper mobile.”
She further explained that her joints don’t bend the right way. Everything goes the wrong and awkward way. Jameela stated that she wanted to talk about EDS even if it meant people would make fun of her and her health condition.
Jameela previously had terrible experiences sharing information about her health with people trolling and even bashing her. She explained the lifestyle changes she opted to make to better manage her symptoms.
She said she stopped drinking, smoking, and taking drugs because they all affect her body’s healing. They can cause bleeding and bruising. Jameela also left a hanging statement about wanting to have a baby but didn’t elaborate further.
She further admitted, “I’m worried at the fact I’m disadvantaged with my health; it means you dislocate, your teeth are harder to work on, your struggle with migraines, random allergies.”
Jameela encouraged her followers to have themselves checked by a doctor if they seemed to be constantly having accidents and difficulties with their joints. She also asked her viewers to be constantly on the lookout for symptoms.
The Official Chart radio host emphasized going to the doctor and getting checked. After all, a visit can save a life because those who have EDS usually look well. She ended her video by sending plenty of love and positivity to her followers and, again, asking them to go and get checked by a doctor.
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a rare and inherited condition that primarily impacts the body’s connective tissues. This medical struggle can affect people differently, with some of the symptoms in their most aggressive form being disabling with limited to zero control of the tissues.
It was in February 2021 when Jameela revealed that she felt suicidal after one troll alleged that she was suffering from Munchausen’s syndrome. The Good Place star stated that she didn’t want to be alive after she was mocked for her mental health and disability.
Even as she celebrated her birthday, Jameela thought the world was ugly and didn’t want to be part of it anymore.
Munchausen’s syndrome is a condition where the affected person pretends that they’re sick or going through a health condition when they are not. The accusation of this troll prompted Jameela to defend all the medical struggles she’s been through and is currently battling.
A year later, Jameela emerged as a happier and stronger person. According to the actress, she’s never felt as free as she is now.
