Jamie Foxx’s New Project: A Luther Vandross Documentary Produced with Colin Firth
Jamie Foxx is definitely making a comeback after not being active in Hollywood since mid-April due to what was referred to as a medical complication by his family.
It was announced that the American actor would produce a documentary about the legendary singer Luther Vandross. The Dance with My Father hitmaker made a name for himself in the music industry for his soulful vocals and, during his career, sold more than 40 million records globally. Luther is also well-recognized for his talent and artistry, having won eight Grammy Awards and had an impressive 11 successive Platinum albums.
The documentary will be co-produced by English actor Colin Firth and Sony Music based on the report released by The Hollywood Reporter last Tuesday.
And the director for the upcoming project has been named as well, and it will be no other than Dawn Porter, the award-winning director best known for her films Trapped in 2016 and John Lewis: Good Trouble in 2020.
This new project by Jamie comes after he was recently seen in public after being away for three months. And the American actor and comedian was reportedly excited about this new project.
Luther helped change the R&B genre, and his untimely death in 2005 at only 54 was a massive loss to the music industry. Recall that the much-loved soul artist was about to relaunch his career when he suffered a stroke. Luther had also struggled with diabetes for a long time.
During that time, the spokesman of New Jersey’s JFK Medical Center released the official statement of Luther’s death by saying, “Luther Vandross had a peaceful passing under the watchful eye of friends, family, and the medical support team.”
Considered the foremost balladeer of his generation, Luther’s songs: Any Love, Power of Love, Here and Now, all contributed to his success. Dance with My Father, the singer’s last album, was released in April 2003, shortly after his stroke, and this too made it to the number one spot in the US Pop Album charts.
The final album made Luther a household name and an inspiration to many upcoming R&B artists, and it earned him four Grammy Awards in 2004, winning the Song of The Year for the album’s title track.
Success after success, Luther was living a larger-than-life persona thanks to his talent, passion, multifaceted career, and influence on romantic singers like Keith Washington and Kenneth Babyface Edmonds, to name a few, was very evident.
Luther also stood out not just for his voice but for his overall appearance and vibe, steering clear of the macho posture and appearing natural without being seen as weak. He was vocal in sharing his insecurities, and his readiness to show his emotions won him a legion of female fans who admired his honesty and vulnerability.
Luther was also open about his insecurities and was sensitive to the fact that he was perceived only as a love song musician and nothing else.
Specific details about the upcoming documentary have yet to be provided. Still, it is a documentary that will serve as a throwback for many who are reminiscing about good times and beautiful music.
