Jennifer Garner Supports Ben Affleck Amid Marriage Troubles With Jennifer Lopez, Source Says

Jennifer Garner is wishing nothing but the best for her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, as he navigates marriage troubles with Jennifer Lopez. A source close to Garner, 52, shared with PEOPLE that she “wants the best for Ben,” focusing on his happiness and health so he can be the best dad to their three kids: Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12.

Affleck, 51, and Lopez, 54, have hit a rough patch just under two years since their wedding. Despite the challenges, Garner appreciates Lopez’s healthy lifestyle and her support for Affleck’s sobriety. “Jen wants that for Ben,” the source adds.

Garner, who is currently dating John Miller, the chairman and CEO of Cali Group, continues to prioritize a positive co-parenting relationship with Affleck. Affleck and Garner were married in 2009 and announced their separation in 2015. They officially filed for divorce in April 2017, finalizing it the following year.

Affleck and Lopez rekindled their romance in 2021 and tied the knot in July 2022. However, they have recently been living apart in Los Angeles, with Lopez promoting her movie Atlas solo in Los Angeles and Mexico, while Affleck is busy filming The Accountant 2.

Back in 2020, Affleck expressed his gratitude and respect for Garner, emphasizing the importance of their children seeing both parents communicate and get along post-divorce. “Our marriage didn’t work, and that’s difficult. Both of us really believe that it’s important for kids to see their parents respect one another and get along, whether they’re together or not,” he told PEOPLE at the time.

Affleck continued, “It’s important for my kids to know that I respect and care about Jen and she treats me the same way. I have a lot of respect and gratitude toward her. And I wish her the very best.”

As of now, tensions are escalating between Affleck and Lopez, with their friends and loved ones divided over whether their failing marriage can be salvaged. Speaking with Us Weekly, a source close to the family said, “Some believe they can work it out with time and effort, pointing to their deep bond. Others think the relationship has run its course.”

Another said that Affleck has “been checked out” of the marriage as the “honeymoon phase has worn off.” According to that insider, the couple “are on ‘two completely different pages most of the time.”

A third source pointed out that salvaging the sinking boat would be difficult at this time given that the stars “both have demanding careers that often require them to be in different cities.”
