Jessie J Embarks On A New Journey, Leaving Republic Records After 17 Years

In a heartfelt Instagram video shared on Thursday, Jessie J, at the age of 35, announced a significant career decision that has set the music world abuzz. After a remarkable 17-year journey with Republic Records, the renowned singer revealed her departure from the label, prompting fans and industry insiders to ponder the reasons behind this momentous move.
Walking through a serene park in her video, Jessie began by addressing her decision, emphasizing that it shouldn’t be blown out of proportion. “My lawyer said that I need to make a statement about the decision that I have made. I don’t want it to feel like a huge, big thing. After 17 years, I have decided to leave Republic Records. I was about six months pregnant when I made this decision,” she shared.
This decision was not taken lightly, and Jessie J expressed her gratitude to the label’s leadership, Monte and Avery Lipman, and Jason Flom. She described them as “gracious” and supportive of her choice. “It’s been the most amazing high and low ride of my life,” she continued. “I just feel so grateful to have been signed to the best record label in the world. I have to just be honest with who I am and what I want from my career now.”
In her signature witty style, Jessie jokingly referred to herself as “unemployed” after parting ways with Republic Records. She wanted to clarify that there was no negativity or drama surrounding her decision. According to her, it simply came down to a feeling that had lingered for years, as she shared, “I just didn’t feel right being signed, and it hasn’t for years. So, I need to stop just trusting my instincts and ask for them … so now I am unemployed.”
What’s driving this change? Motherhood. Jessie, who recently welcomed her son Sky into the world, shared how becoming a parent had shifted her perspective and priorities. She expressed her desire to create new music on her own terms and timetable: “I am now in the process of doing all the legalities and sorting out the music so I can put out new music and do it my way. On my time and my terms,” she said, adding, “Now I have had a baby, there is just no stopping me. Something happens when you have a baby and just start giving zero f- – -s. But there is nothing but good vibes.”
In her Instagram caption, Jessie playfully compared her appearance to Johnny Depp from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for her “big statement” while thanking those at Republic Records for the incredible journey.
““Not me looking like Johnny Depp from Charlie and the chocolate factory for my big statement 😂Thank you Monte and Avery Lipman, Jason Flomm, @dgryn and everyone who I’ve worked with at @republicrecords for the past 17 years. What a 🎢🎤 drop,” the caption read in the post that saw an immense outpouring of support from the Price Tag singer’s followers.
