John Legend Reveals How He Met And Connected With Wife Chrissy Tiegen
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s love story is one for the ages, filled with laughter and unforgettable moments. The EGOT winner, 45, recently sat down exclusively with PEOPLE to reminisce about the beginnings of their romance back in 2006.
John fondly recalls their first encounter on the set of his Stereo music video, where Chrissy, 38, captivated him with her infectious laugh.
“As soon as I met Chrissy, she had this infectious laugh. She just lit up the room. When she met me, I think I was shirtless ironing my own clothes because we didn’t have a stylist for the shoot. It was very low budget,” he recalled.
Despite the unconventional setting, their connection was instant.
“I styled myself, ironed my own clothes. She walked in, and that’s how we met. I’m sure she made a joke about that. We just clicked right away,” he said.
This initial spark blossomed into a beautiful relationship, leading to their marriage in 2013 at Lake Como, where they famously starred together in John’s All of Me music video.
“Nabil Elderkin, the same guy who directed the video where we met, was the director of this video as well. We shot it the same week we got married at Lake Como. We went a little bit early and shot the video on the Thursday and Friday before we got married,” John recalled.
“We finished the shoot, got ready for our rehearsal dinner, and then the next day we got married. It was a very full-circle moment. Then of course this song goes on to be the song that everyone plays at their weddings,” he added.
The full-circle moment continued as they returned to Lake Como for their tenth anniversary last year, indulging in a vow renewal ceremony surrounded by loved ones. Recreating the magic of their wedding night, they celebrated their love with their children by their side.
“We had just completed our family just a couple of months before that, and we got to bring all of them to Italy, to Lake Como where it all started. We recreated the magic of our wedding night,” the Ordinary People singer revealed.
“We were so emotional being there with our kids,” he added, reflecting on the joy of sharing such a meaningful milestone with their growing family. With daughters Luna, Esti, and sons Miles and Wren, John and Chrissy embrace every moment together, cherishing the journey they’ve embarked on as partners and parents.
