John Leguizamo Names San Antonio His Surprise Favorite In New Travel Series

John Leguizamo just found his new favorite U.S. city and even he didn’t see it coming. As the Emmy-winning actor, comedian, and proud advocate gears up for the second season of Leguizamo Does America, he is reflecting on the places that moved him the most. And this time, San Antonio, Texas, stole the show.
As he told PEOPLE, “I gotta say my favorite is San Antonio.”
“San Antonio really rocked me in a way I didn’t expect,” he continued. “Maybe because I didn’t expect it to be the [seventh]-largest city in America, and for the food scene to be so incredible and the activism and the history, the Latin history there, because obviously it was Mexico before it was America.”
He’s not wrong. Once a part of Mexico before it became the U.S., San Antonio carries centuries of rich Latino culture, something John clearly soaked up with enthusiasm.
Leguizamo Does America isn’t your average road trip show. It’s a wild ride full of flavor, history, politics, and soul; all with John’s signature wit. The show’s second season kicks off July 6 on MSNBC and dives into Latino communities across cities like Philadelphia, Denver, Raleigh, Phoenix, and New Orleans. Viewers will meet incredible people, from dance troupes keeping Cuban culture alive to entrepreneurs building mezcal empires.
“[Latinx people are] living this parallel shadow life in America, where we’ve been here since 1492 and before. And the first European language spoken here was not English — it was Spanish, in America,” John shared.
Season 1 already gave us a deep look at cities like Miami, Chicago, D.C., Puerto Rico, L.A., and John’s beloved hometown, New York City. But season 2, according to John, has an even more personal punch, as he explained how Latinx people in America “face so much trials and tribulations.”
That’s what fuels Leguizamo Does America. He’s not just visiting places. He’s giving a voice to stories that rarely get told. And he’s inviting the world to ride along, with new episodes airing every Sunday night through August.
