Johnny Depp Postpones His Upcoming Tour With The Hollywood Vampires Because Of An Ankle Injury

Johnny Depp, a member of Hollywood Vampires, is postponing the American leg of their band’s upcoming tour. And the reason for the delay? A painful ankle injury.
A source told TMZ that during the promotion of his newest film, Jeanne Du Barry, at the Cannes Film Festival, the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor injured his ankle. While Johnny tried to power through during the tribute show for his late friend Jeff Beck, unfortunately, he caused more pain to his ankle and worsened the situation.
One of the insiders shared with TMZ that Johnny’s medical team advised him not to fly for the foreseeable future due to his fractured ankle.
Johnny and his band won’t be able to perform at the Hollywood Vampires’ scheduled shows. Three shows are lined up for the team in June in New Hampshire, New York, and Massachusetts.
Last Monday, Johnny and his bandmates Joe Perry and Alice Cooper confirmed the speculation and announced that they would reschedule the dates for their US tour’s first leg.
On their Instagram account, they said, “We are sad to share that the Hollywood Vampires will be rescheduling our three US tour dates this coming week.”
Explaining the decision, they shared, “Johnny has sustained a painful injury to his ankle following his recent appearances and has been advised by his doctor not to travel. He is devastated by this turn of events but looks forward to resting so all four Vampires can bring their absolute best to the European tour.”
Hollywood Vampires is composed of Johnny, Alice, and Joe and was formed in 2012. They initially performed cover songs from the rock genre to honor and pay tribute to the rock stars who passed away in the 1970s.
Johnny then toured with Jeff Beck and even recorded an album with him. The legendary artist died at 78 years old after catching bacterial meningitis. Johnny and Jeff made a 13-track collection, with two being Johnny’s originals.
The rest is a fun and eclectic mix of covers from music icons like Marvin Gaye, the Beach Boys, and John Lennon. They’ve also crossed over to alternative rockers like The Velvet Underground and Killing Joke.
During their album promotion, the 77-year-old Jeff told Billboard, “When Johnny and I started playing together, it ignited our youthful spirit and creativity. We would joke about how we felt 18 again, which became the album title too.”
And in keeping with the theme of youthful remembrance that was Johnny and Jeff’s inspiration for their album, they had Jeff’s wife, Sandra, draw them as 18-year-olds, which became the album cover.
For Johnny, working with Jeff, whose music he listened to while growing up, hit differently. The collaboration with someone he looks up to was a dream come true.
During the same Billboard interview, Johnny shared how deeply honored he was to be able to write and play music with Jeff, who he considers one of the true greats. The Edward Scissorhands star also admitted how privileged he is to call Jeff his brother.
The two artists met in 2016, and from there, their friendship and bond grew quickly and steadily as they shared a common passion for cars and guitars. The two also make it a point to make each other laugh. As they spent more time together, Jeff grew to appreciate Johnny’s take on music and his songwriting abilities.
While in the studio, Jeff once revealed how he and Johnny continue challenging one another by selecting specific songs they will include on their album.
