Julia Roberts Voices Gratitude For Ability To Balance Career And Family
Julia Roberts, the celebrated actress, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with British Vogue, where she shared her thoughts on the delicate balance between her thriving career and her loving family life. The singer said that while she has not only made her mark in Hollywood, she has found deep gratitude in being able to pause her work life to nurture her home life.
Julia, who is a proud mother of 19-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 16-year-old son Henry, shared her feelings of immense luck that her career success came before her desire to start a family. She is happily married to her husband Danny Moder, 54.
In her words, “Well, I think that the luckiest aspect of my work life/family life is that the success of my work life came earlier. So by the time I had the success of my family life and had a husband and children who wanted to stay at home, I had been working for 18 years. And so I felt that I had the luxury. I didn’t have to pick one or the other.”
Unlike some of her peers who had to juggle the demands of work and family simultaneously, Julia found that her career had matured enough by the time she welcomed her children into her life. This made it easier for her to make the choice to prioritize her family over her work.
“So it was easy to pause work life to nurture my home life. And so, because I have girlfriends who were having to juggle being at work and having to go into the bathroom, and you know, get out that breast pump, I sort of went through that with them by proxy,” she shared.
Julia expressed deep gratitude for being allowed the luxury of staying home and spending quality time with her family, especially during the crucial early years of her children’s lives.
In another interview with PEOPLE, Julia and her Leave the World Behind co-star Mahershala Ali discussed their new film and also revealed their family’s comfort show.
“I discovered a series with my kids, The Wonder Years, which I had never seen before. And boy, did we always look forward to cuddling up with that,” she shared.
Turning to Mahershala, who has a 6-year-old daughter, Julia added, “You’ll have to check that out when your girl’s a little bit bigger.”
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Julia proudly mentioned that her three children were all doing “great,” and that “two of the three of [her] children are in college.” She explained that since her two eldest children embarked on higher education, she has made supporting their schools her “entire life.”
