Keira Knightley Shares Why She Says “No More Kids” After Two Daughters
Keira Knightley has made a firm decision — there will be no more kids in her household. The Love Actually star, 39, opened up about her family life and parenting struggles while promoting her Netflix series Black Doves on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And surprisingly, the reason she’s done having kids isn’t what you might expect.
“You know that thing where you’re like ‘Oh, you know they’re so nice. Should we have another one?’ And you think, ‘Oh yeah, I could do the pregnancy. I could even do the birth but I cannot watch anymore Peppa Pig.’ So there’s no more kids,” she stated.
Keira and her husband, musician James Righton, are parents to two daughters — 9-year-old Edie and 5-year-old Delilah. For years, Peppa Pig dominated their TV screens, but thankfully, that phase has passed. She revealed that her kids are really cool, adding that they have developed a passion for Studio Ghibli movies. “It’s lovely after seven years of Peppa Pig.”
The global success of Peppa Pig is undeniable, with the show becoming the most-watched on-demand series in 2020 and amassing nearly 38 million YouTube subscribers. But for Keira, those endless episodes of Peppa’s adventures were enough to put a cap on her family size.
While Edie has moved on from cartoons, she’s discovered new obsessions — like music artists Lizzo and Chappell Roan. Inspired by her daughter’s love for music, Keira planned a disco party to get all the girls dancing. But her excitement didn’t exactly win her any cool mom points.
“You know when they’re teenagers, you think ‘Yeah, they’re gonna find me embarrassing.’ But yeah, but 9, right?” Keira joked. Imitating her daughter’s reaction, she said, “‘Mom, mom you are so embarrassing, just go stand in the corner.’ It was awful.”
Despite these relatable parenting struggles, Keira adores her daughters. She’s kept them largely out of the public eye, but she often gushes about them in interviews. In 2022, she revealed to PEOPLE that Disney’s Encanto was a family favorite. “Even my 2-year-old can sing ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno,’ so there’s a lot of Encanto,” she said.
Keira also credited her role as a mom for influencing her decision to take on action-packed roles like her character in Black Doves. “I’m a mom of two, and I’m so child-friendly at home,” she told Jimmy, adding, “I just wanted to do something a bit punk and kind of blew everything up.”
Jimmy noted that Keira performed her own stunts for the series, proving that this mom can handle more than just disco party drama.
