Kelly Clarkson’s Ex Husband Fires Back At Singer’s Lawsuit Over $2.6 Million Ruling
In the latest twist of the ongoing legal drama between Kelly Clarkson and her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, Brandon is pushing back against the lawsuit she filed in March. Kelly claimed that she deserved more than the $2.6 million that a labor commissioner ruled Brandon owed her. But Brandon is firing back, asking for the case to be dismissed. He argues that the previous ruling should stand and that Kelly missed her chance to appeal for more money.
Brandon and his management firm, Starstruck Management, aren’t taking Kelly’s accusations lying down. They’re denying every single one of them. They say Kelly’s lawsuit doesn’t hold up because she didn’t appeal the initial ruling within the allotted time frame. They also claim that any money they allegedly earned illegally has already been put into the pot, so to speak, and shouldn’t be a part of this new lawsuit.
According to Brandon’s side, Kelly’s complaint doesn’t even have enough evidence to be considered a proper lawsuit. They’re basically saying, “Sorry, Kelly, but you’re barking up the wrong legal tree.”
The whole mess stems from a ruling made by the labor commissioner back in 2023. The commissioner said Brandon and Starstruck Management broke California’s Talent Agencies Act that says managers can’t get gigs for artists unless they’re working with a licensed agent.
Kelly’s suit, filed in mid-March, claims Brandon took fees for setting up contracts with big names like The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Voice. She wants a “full and complete accounting from Starstruck of all monies received by Starstruck, directly or indirectly, in connection with any and all contracts, employment, or engagements pertaining in any way to the personal services of [Clarkson].” The detailed breakdown the singer demanded includes commissions, fees, profits, advances and producing fees.
Brandon and Kelly were married for nearly a decade before things went south in 2020. They’ve got two kids together, River and Remy. This legal mess is just the latest chapter in their rocky split, as the saga began in 2020 when Starstruck sued Kelly for unpaid commissions, and she fired back with her own claims of illegal behavior. Their divorce was finalized in 2022, but it seems like the drama is far from over.
