Kelly Rowland Forgets Her First Meeting With the Duchess of Sussex in 2014
American singer and actress Kelly Rowland recently gushed about her new friend, the Duchess of Sussex, whom she described as warm and down-to-earth. She said, “I don’t know what people expect to see or to know, but she just felt very cool and very down to earth. She is very warm.”
The former Destiny’s Child singer followed it up with, “She was royal before she was in that family. I think that we are royalty before anything. And we have to hold ourselves in that regard as humans, as people.”
Though Kelly first met Meghan Markle in 2014, it seems that Kelly has forgotten about their first encounter despite a photo that documented their introduction.
Kelly and Meghan were snapped together while attending New York Fashion Week with Joe Zee, a celebrity stylist, producer, and journalist. Meghan shared the same photo in her defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig. The same picture was also uploaded on her social media account with the tags “grateful” and “NYFW” when it was still active.
She also tagged Kelly, meaning she would have received a notification then. But this incident was seemingly forgotten by Kelly when she said to Hello! Magazine during the Renaissance Tour on September 4, “It was my first time meeting her.” Kelly was also joined by Kerry Washington that night.
Unlike Kelly, Kerry remembers meeting Meghan before. Old pictures were recovered, and there was a snap taken in 2013 where Kerry and Meghan were caught together while at a New York City party. The gathering is believed to have been a celebration for Kerry for gracing the cover of Elle Magazine.
When the pictures were taken, Kerry was in the spotlight as she was nominated for a Golden Globe and two Emmy Awards for her role as Olivia Pope in Scandal, an ABC drama. Meghan, on the other hand, was already part of Suits, a legal drama where she played the character of Rachel Zane.
The award-giving bodies were not the only ones that noticed Kerry’s performance because it also struck a chord with Meghan who praised and gushed about the actress during an interview in 2016.
During one interview, Meghan was asked who her ultimate talent crush is, and the Suits actress gamely responded, “Kerry Washinton. She’s amazing.”
Responding to Meghan’s appreciation two years later, Kerry was amazed by Meghan’s opinion of her. Given that the interview was before Meghan’s royal wedding, Kerry said, “She’s so beautiful and so talented, and I’m so very happy for her. I’m thrilled for the opportunities that lay ahead for her…I’m so happy for her because marriage rocks, so welcome to the club, girl!”
Meghan made headlines in 2018 when she married Prince Harry. The couple’s royal life in England had become so tumultuous that they eventually decided to move to California. One of her critics, Lady Glenconner, commented, “I think the thing about Meghan was, she had no idea what was expected of her really. I think she just thought it was sort of like being another actress, you know. Riding around in a golden coach and everything like that. And actually, being a member of the royal family—a lot of it is extremely boring.”
