Kelsea Ballerini Opens Up About Embarrassing Onstage Moments — And Her Secret To Laughing It Off
Kelsea Ballerini is no stranger to the unexpected, especially when it comes to performing. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the 31-year-old country superstar opened up about handling a particularly embarrassing wardrobe malfunction during her Heartfirst Tour, along with other candid details about her life.
While on stage singing her hit song Miss Me More, Kelsea noticed the crowd seemed extra energized.
“…in my brain, I’m like, ‘Man, people are really yelling this . Things feel extra rowdy tonight!’ And then I realized that they were yelling at me to zip my fly. That was embarrassing,” she recalled.
But instead of panicking, Kelsea did what any pro would do — she took it in stride.
This wasn’t the only wardrobe mishap she’s faced. During another show, the singer got stuck in a zipper mid-costume change. Without missing a beat, she grabbed the microphone from behind the stage tent and told the crowd, “Be there in a sec, please don’t leave!” Today, she laughs off these moments, saying, “But I feel like all those moments now, instead of being embarrassed, I just roll with it. It happens.”
Beyond the stage, Kelsea’s been keeping busy with her music and personal growth. After celebrating her latest album, Patterns, with a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden, she’s now gearing up for her first arena tour set to kick off in January. And in her life outside music, she’s had some memorable “lasts” that reflect her positive, adventurous spirit.
For her latest tattoo, Kelsea chose the word “sunflower” down her back. As she explained, sunflowers “always grow toward the sun.” she explains. “That’s where I’m at in life right now: growing within myself toward good things.” It’s a meaningful addition to her collection, symbolizing her journey toward growth and self-discovery.
Kelsea also shared that her latest girls’ night looked a bit different from her party days. She and her friends opted to stay in, ordering pasta, sipping wine, and playing We’re Not Really Strangers and Cards Against Humanity.
And when it comes to music, she’s been hooked on Sabrina Carpenter’s track Please Please Please, often singing the catchy line, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, motherf—er,” around the house.
