Kris Jenner on Having Kids Outside of Marriage: “I’m Very Old Fashioned”
The Kardashians are known for having progressive views on personal issues like dating, marriage, and kids. It may have come as a surprise when Kris Jenner shared her rather conservative opinion about having children.
In a recent interview conducted by celebrity chef and TV personality Martha Stewart, Jenner opened up about her views toward marriage, and how they have evolved over time.
The Martha Stewart Podcast on iHeartRadio featured Jenner in an honest and revealing conversation about family ties and the modern era. The businesswoman, manager, and mother of the Kardashian clan became notably nostalgic as she talked about her first honeymoon in 1978 with late husband Robert Kardashian.
“I had Kourtney nine months, two weeks, and two days later. I know that because all the Armenian ladies were probably counting…I promise I got pregnant on my honeymoon. You know, those were the days where—I’m very old-fashioned.”
According to Jenner, she has had to unlearn many of the views she held before and become less protective toward her family. “You have to embrace what is happening in the world,” she stated.
Stewart presses Jenner, asking how it felt knowing that her girls are dating and getting pregnant with men who are not their husbands. “You’ve evolved, haven’t you?” asks Stewart.
“I guess so,” Kris responded. “I get more and more understanding. I get what this generation—and I have so many generations now in my family—I guess there’s such a big age difference.”
During the interview, Jenner also shares what it meant for her to fully accept her family and their choices. “I’ve been through so many things in my life that hindsight is very important,” she shared. “Because I learned so much along the way that I knew nothing about before. I think that I do. I embrace what is in front of me. I think that I am easy once I understand it,” she continued.
While many of her children have gone on to co-parent their own children with their partners, Jenner is keeping it real by holding on to her most important priorities: the well-being and safety of her family. She says, “They could throw anything at me, and I’m here for them. They know that. There’s nothing that I would judge. Not at all. I mean, I just never would.”
Jenner is proud of the fact that she has a big family and hopes to impart the value of family to her kids and grandkids. Today, Jenner is a grandmother to 11 beautiful children.
Over the years, the Kardashian family has endured several well-publicized scandals and controversies. Some of the most famous incidents include Kim’s leaked sex tape with Ray J and 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, Kourtney’s blow-up when Scott Disick cheated on her, Khloe’s disastrous marriage with Lamar Odom, and when Kris posted nude photos of ex-fiancée Blac Chyna online.
