Lady Gaga Says Her 2025 Grammys Speech Was Aimed At Lifting Up The Trans Community

During the 2025 Grammys on February 2, Lady Gaga took the stage with Bruno Mars to accept the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song Die with a Smile. As she wrapped up her speech, she delivered a powerful message: “…Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be lifted up.”
Now, the Born This Way singer is reflecting on that moment. In a new interview on the Las Culturistas podcast, she told hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers that speaking out was something she felt deeply called to do. “I promised myself that if I won a Grammy that night, I was gonna say something that was in support of something that is so, so important, which is to be protective and loving to a community that is experiencing violence,” she shared.
For Gaga, this isn’t just about allyship — it’s personal. She spoke about how much she has learned from the LGBTQ+ community over the years. “Thank you for teaching me so much about the world,” she said. “I couldn’t be the person that I am without the stories of all the people that I’ve met — and their authenticity and their realness.”
She also acknowledged how much the queer community has shaped her music, especially her 2012 album Born This Way, which became an anthem of love and self-acceptance. “Born This Way was a mixture of the inspiration of the queer community, my love of the queer community, as well as this techno-rock, electro-rock, underground New York metal scene that I was a part of. That blender is truly what makes me me, and it still is,” she explained.
Now, with her latest album Mayhem out in the world, Gaga is continuing to use her platform to spread love and encouragement, as she believes that this is “an important time for us all to be real with each other and ask for what we need from each other.”
