Lamorne Morris Steals 2024 Emmys With Hilarious Jokes About Robert Downey Jr. And New Girl
What a night for Lamorne Morris at the 2024 Emmy Awards! The 41-year-old actor took home Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his work on Fargo. In his acceptance speech, he was heartwarming, full of much humor, and charming – the audience laughed and clapped.
Lamorne opened by saying, “I want to thank God for allowing me to be here. I also want to thank God for my beautiful mother, who raised me. She’s been my biggest champion ever since you know came out of, I dropped out of her, her butt, whatever, I know where babies come from.”
Not to forget, he also thanked his 4-year-old daughter Lily, teasing her, “I told you I would do it, you always doubted me.
After the laughter faded, Lamorne thanked those who paved his path to this night. He thanked his cast, FX, and finally, the show’s creator Noah Hawley. “Noah Hawley — you put together one hell of a cast and thank you for trusting and believing in me and everyone over at FX and Hulu,” he stated, adding, “I’ll do another thing on my podcast and thank the rest of the people I forgot to thank.”
And in true Lamorne style, he also gave a shout-out to fellow nominee Robert Downey Jr, joking, “Thank you to the Television Academy for finally recognizing all my hard work on New Girl! Although I believe it’s a lock, I do see I’m nominated alongside Robert Downey Jr. who stole my role in Tropic Thunder. My fellow nominees and I won’t let this slide.”
But Fargo didn’t stop there – Lamorne’s co-stars Juno Temple and Jon Hamm were also nominated, as was the series itself for Outstanding Limited Series. Thrilled, Lamorne said, “This is a great honor, and I couldn’t be more excited! Truly blessed to work with such a talented cast and crew! Special thank you Noah for the opportunity and trusting me to bring Witt Farr to life! Go Fargo!”
Other nominees in Lamorne’s category included Jonathan Bailey for Fellow Travelers, Tom Goodman-Hill for Baby Reindeer, Lewis Pullman for Lessons in Chemistry, and Treat Williams for Feud: Capote vs. the Swans. Jonathan, 36, took to Instagram to reflect on his nomination, which held extra significance for him as an openly gay actor playing a queer role. He was grateful to the Television Academy for the advancement in that representation of LGBTQ+ stories.
Robert, nominated for The Sympathizer, said in a statement, “I share this nomination with the incomparable Director Park, Hoa Xuande, Sandra Oh and my remarkably talented Vietnamese cast mates. It was a privilege to participate in this extraordinary, cross-cultural project. I thank the Television Academy for acknowledging my five small parts within The Sympathizer’s larger whole.”
Tom was nominated for his antagonist turn in Baby Reindeer. News outlets quoted him as saying, “It’s all emotionally 100 percent true, if that makes sense. It’s all borrowed from instances that happened to me and real people that I met.”
Meanwhile, Lewis Pullman gained widespread attention for his acting in Lessons in Chemistry, which drew rave reviews from the show’s originator herself, Bonnie Garmus. Bonnie went on to praise not only Lewis but also Brie Larson for their outstanding roles in the adaptation of her book.
Finally, the late Treat Williams, who passed away this June, won posthumously for Feud: Capote vs. the Swans. His cast mates eulogized him with affection, Naomi Watts reminding viewers of just how thrilled Treat was upon signing on to the production.
