Liam Payne Cancels His South American Tour Due to a Serious Kidney Infection
English singer Liam Payne recently learned—quite literally—that health is indeed wealth. The former One Direction member was hospitalized for a serious kidney infection, forcing him to cancel his upcoming South American tour.
Instead of a kick-off performance in Lima, Peru on September 1, Liam shared the unfortunate news through his Instagram account. A video revealed that his doctors ordered him to rest and recover.
Through the video, Liam also revealed that he has been unwell lately. He admitted that they had already started rehearsals, but he was medically advised not to travel and to make time for proper recovery. Liam went on to assure his fans that he has the best people around him at home, making his road to recovery faster and easier.
Meanwhile, the caption said, “It’s with a heavy heart I have to tell you that we have no other choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America. Over the past week, I’ve been in hospital with a serious kidney infection, which I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and the doctor’s orders are that I now need to rest and recover. I was beyond excited to play for you guys. To all of you who have bought tickets: I’m so sorry.”
He also added that he and his team are working on rescheduling the tour as soon as he is able. He mentioned that tickets will all be refunded for now and ticket holders should keep an eye out for updates on the next steps.
Earlier, Liam admitted that he had some challenges regarding his mental health. He also shared that his doctors diagnosed him with several conditions and that he spent some time in a wellness clinic in the US after he experienced rock bottom last year.
The singer has shared several Instagram stories in the past. It has become apparent, especially to friends and family, that he is still struggling. The performer admitted to experiencing manic episodes and that he found it difficult to remain sober, especially during his lowest moments.
Liam mentioned that he had filmed several videos to share what he was going through, but he deleted them each time and started over. He also noted that he needs to know if it’s the right time to share what’s going on with him.
The English singer continued, “But the other side of it is, and that feels like when I would lose my sobriety in these super low moments, and I felt like that today. And it’s isolating the two things and seeing them separately and like I know what they are now. Luckily, I have some amazing people around me who look after me, but I am sure they can see it in me, too, that I’m ‘not really here.”
Liam’s tour was supposed to have taken place from September 1 to 12. It included performances in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia. Since 2019, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist has not released a full album. The tour was meant to represent his return to music, possibly leading to the release of a new album.
