Lily Allen Explains Reason For Keeping Ex-Husband’s Last Name
Lily Allen, the 39-year-old pop star known for her outspoken personality, is facing criticism from all sides after revealing that she has kept her ex-husband’s last name, Cooper, even after marrying actor David Harbour in 2020. While the decision might seem practical to some, it’s reportedly causing a strain in her current marriage.
Lily was married to Sam Cooper, the father of her two daughters, 12-year-old Ethel (12) and 11-year-old Marnie, from 2011 until their divorce in 2018. Even after moving on and marrying Harbour, she has chosen to keep Cooper as her surname on official documents. According to Lily, this decision was made for the sake of convenience, especially when traveling with her children.
“It’s hard to travel with children if you haven’t got the same surname,” she explained during an episode of her Miss Me? podcast.
However, this has become a “bone of contention” between Lily and David. Despite having joint bank accounts with Harbour, Lily continues to use an American Express card with the name Cooper on it, which she admits is “quite annoying” for her husband. “I’m sure that stings,” she added, acknowledging the discomfort it causes.
This revelation comes on the heels of another controversy where Lily admitted on her podcast that she got rid of a dog after it chewed up her and her children’s passports and visas. The incident not only cost her a fortune to replace the documents but also prevented her daughters from seeing their father for months.
Her candid confession has sparked a wave of backlash from fans on social media. Many have criticized her for not taking responsibility for leaving important documents where a puppy could reach them, and instead, choosing to send the dog “back to the home.”
One outraged fan wrote, “Did she take responsibility for leaving the passports somewhere a puppy could get to them? No. She got rid of the dog. What an awful person.”
Others have pointed out how out of touch Lily’s actions seem, with one commenter stating, “How on earth did Lily Allen think that this would make her look relatable as opposed to absolutely awful.”
