Lupita Nyong’o Reflects On Thanksgiving And Gratitude
Lupita Nyong’o took a moment this Thanksgiving to reflect on the many things she’s thankful for. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the 40-year-old actress shared her thoughts with her followers, offering a glimpse into her life and her perspective.
In the post, Lupita shared a video featuring her beloved cat, Yoyo, as they played together. Against a backdrop of instrumental music, she expressed her gratitude for several key aspects of her life.
“Today, I feel grateful,” she began. “Grateful for peace: it is not guaranteed. Grateful for the truth: even when it has hurt. Grateful for tears: they have washed away so much pain. Grateful for therapy: it has kept me sane.”
The acclaimed Black Panther actress continued to express her appreciation, touching on the significance of family and friends in her life. “Grateful for family: they have been so kind. Grateful for friends: they have been so present. Grateful for new experiences: they have shifted my energy. Grateful for the ocean: for being constant and ever-changing,” she stated.
She didn’t forget to mention her beloved cat, Yoyo. According to her, the pet cat has “kept my heart open and tender.”
Lupita summed up her feelings with a simple yet powerful statement: “Through it all, I am grateful.”
This introspective post comes on the heels of Lupita’s recent personal challenges. Just over a month ago, she announced her split from boyfriend Selema Masekela.
In a revealing Instagram post, she wrote, “At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust. I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.”
According to the actress, her motivation to share her personal story is tied to her hope “ that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it.”
It was days after the post that she announced her adoption of Yoyo. While she said she always had a fear for cats, Yoyo is part of her being open to “change and new possibilities.”
Three days into meeting the cat, she had developed a bond with him. “I never understood people whose phones were full of photos and videos of their pets — now I am one of those people! It may look like I saved Yoyo, but really, Yoyo is saving me,” she said of her new furry friend.
