Madonna’s Biopic Is A No-Go After Her Social Media Circus Antics
There was supposedly a Madonna biopic in the works that Madonna herself would co-write and direct. Unfortunately, the entire project was scrapped earlier this week.
The film, which had already cast Ozark actress Julia Garner in the role of Madonna, has been canceled, allegedly due to Madonna’s own fault.
Universal Pictures recently announced that the project with the Queen of Pop would be canceled after Madonna announced her 40th anniversary world tour dates.
But truth be told, it was not the tour that caused the project to be trashed.
According to a report in The US Sun, the biopic, which received the green light for filming in 2020, is no longer happening because Madonna wanted to have almost complete control of the entire project. This is in addition to all the contentious and bizarre antics the singer has been posting on her social media.
Studio executives are apprehensive about the project and working with Madonna because of how she has recently been portraying herself on social media. A close source mentioned that Madonna did herself no favors by being so active on her social media, especially with the content that she has been sharing lately.
After Madonna signed the contract and agreed to make her biopic, the studio expected her to stop or at least reduce her social media antics. It would have been best if she had stopped chasing and basking in the attention, buckled down, and prepared for the movie.
Sure, Madonna’s posts are well supported by her fans, and some of them are funny. Still, most of the time, the content was off-putting to the management team at Universal Studios and left them scratching their heads in frustration and disbelief.
The Frozen singer’s social media posts included a racy video of herself wearing lingerie alongside a photo of her child on Christmas Day. Many found this quite uncomfortable and disturbing.
There were other videos of her wearing a balaclava while holding a riding crop, of her licking water from a dog bowl, and another where she was lip-syncing to rap with lyrics about punching people in their faces.
Fans and followers were stunned and perplexed when Madonna appeared to have confessed and come out as gay, and that she had not yet been circumcised, in October 2022.
These endless posts for attention all contributed to the decision of Universal Studios to just let go of the project, which is a shame because it was revealed that Julia Garner went through a gruesome audition for the role.
The 28-year-old multi-Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actress had to outperform the tough competition to get the lead role. Some of her competitors were Sydney Sweeney and Florence Pugh.
The audition included an 11-hour choreography session and readings by Madonna, in addition to a singing performance in front of her. The audition was described as a boot camp.
This is not the first time this has happened. Madonna’s movie project was axed previously, too. Recall that she had conflicts with Academy Award screenwriter Diablo Cody in 2021 because she was too difficult to work with.
