Margot Robbie Declared And Claimed That Her Upcoming Barbie Movie Will Make $1 Billion During Her Pitch Meetings With Studio Executives
Margot Robbie may have gone overboard, but the Barbie actress surely took her duty as the producer of the Barbie movie seriously. She even went as far as telling the studio that the movie could potentially earn billions of dollars. Margot even assured them that Barbie had the potential to be a commercial success.
The Australian actress, who plays the eponymous Barbie doll alongside 42-year-old Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken, mentioned that for their movie to be a smashing success, the director that they needed onboard was Greta Gerwig.
During Margot’s interview with Collider, she said, “I think my pitch in the green-light meeting was that the studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director.”
She acknowledged that she might be overselling when she mentioned that the movie would make a billion dollars, but Margot was determined because they were making a movie. Margot also compared their latest project to Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg’s 1993 dinosaur movie that generated a whopping $1.046 billion in revenue for its global screenings.
The 33-year-old Aussie further mentioned what she said to the executives, and that’s, “And then I gave a series of examples like dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg – pretty much naming anything that’s been incredible and made a ton of money for the studious over the years. And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig.”
Everyone is still anticipating the final outcome of Barbie—whether it will fulfill Margot’s prediction and join the billion-dollar club like Jurassic Park and other classics like Star Wars and even Harry Potter. Right now, Barbie is gearing up for another feather for Warner Bros. It is anticipated to get past the $100 million mark this weekend.
On another note, Margot’s co-star, Ryan, also has high praise for their director. According to Ryan, “Greta, she’s such a brilliant and inclusive person. She’s brilliant but incapable of being pretentious.”
Ryan further shared that what he admires most about their director is that Greta doesn’t allow herself to create a divide between comedy and drama, and she wants everyone working with her to have the same mindset. Explaining, “So, you end up mining places in the in-between, and it feels very specific to her but also something that you can relate to because it is more like life.”
Barbie is making a mark, with plenty of critics leaving positive reviews. The film was called “dazzling in one of its early reviews, while the Chicago Sun-Times‘ Richard Roeper gushed about how the movie is one of the funniest, most insightful, smartest, and sweetest movies of the year that is entertaining.
Globe and Mail’s Chandler Levack called the movie “both a master’s thesis on feminism and an Austin Powers-esque romp.”
Director Greta is also getting praise and commendation for how she directed the movie, as she was able to seamlessly create a balance between the serious and the silly, all at the correct timings.
Barbie is set to premiere on July 21 and will be up against Oppenheimer, who also leads an all-star cast headed by Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.
