Margot Robbie Speaks Out On Barbie Oscar Nominations
Margot Robbie, the talented actress and producer, has broken her silence regarding the recent Oscar nominations for the blockbuster film Barbie. The film has received a total of eight nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards, but some fans were surprised to see her and director Greta Gerwig missing from the Best Actress and Best Director categories.
During a panel held at a special Screen Actors Guild screening in Los Angeles, Margot, 33, expressed her gratitude and positivity about the nominations. She stated, “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.” The actress emphasized her excitement for the eight Academy Award nominations, describing it as “so wild.”
Margot also shared her thoughts on Gerwig’s omission from the Best Director category, saying, “Obviously I think Greta should be nominated as a director because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films.”
She further highlighted the significance of the film, which surpassed $1 billion in box office earnings, by stating that it is “bigger than us” and “bigger than our industry.” Margot expressed her satisfaction with the film’s success, saying that the film Barbie has done “way more than we ever dreamed it would, and that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”
The nominees for Best Director at the upcoming Academy Awards include Justine Triet from Anatomy of a Fall, Martin Scorsese from Killers of the Flower Moon, Christopher Nolan from Oppenheimer, Yorgos Lanthimos from Poor Things, and Jonathan Glazer from The Zone of Interest. In the Best Actress category, the nominees are Annette Bening from Nyad, Lily Gladstone from Killers of the Flower Moon, Sandra Hüller from Anatomy of a Fall, Carey Mulligan from Maestro, and Emma Stone from Poor Things.
Both Margot and Greta have received public support from their fellow Barbie nominees, Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, since the Oscar nominations were announced. America praised their contributions to the film, stating, “Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie made history and raised the bar with Barbie. The cultural and industry impact they’ve achieved will be felt for generations and I’m so thankful to them for asking me to be a part of it.”
Ryan, who plays Ken opposite Margot’s Barbie, credited them for the film’s success, saying, “No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius.” While disappointed about their omissions, Ryan expressed happiness for America and other artists who contributed to the groundbreaking film.
