Mariah Carey Leaves Audience Starstruck, Makes A Surprise On-Stage Appearance At Broadway’s “Some Like It Hot” Show
On Friday, Mariah Carey took the entire crowd present at the Shubert Theatre in New York City by surprise when she appeared on stage to deliver a warm remark.
The songstress, who left the audience and the cast onstage starstruck, went ahead to applaud the cast of the musical — of which she’s also one of its producers.
“Beautiful, beautiful music. Incredible show. Just everything,” she raves about the cast.
The broadway musical is a stage adaptation of the 1959 film, Some Like It Hot that starred the legendary singer Marilyn Monroe.
The broadway show, set in Chicago, premiered on December 11. Speaking about the musical, the We Belong Together singer cited her love and admiration for the icon Marilyn Monroe started in her childhood.
“Some Like It Hot has a very special significance for me because I grew up loving Marilyn Monroe because my mom was a big fan of hers. And then I found out about her, and I learned about her and read books by Norman Mailer, which were too much to read for a little girl. But I did it anyway,” she shared with the audience listening with enthusiasm.
The 53-year-old singer acknowledged everyone who has been part of making the show a success saying: “I’m so honored … to be able to say I’m a producer on this incredible, incredible show. Honestly, I have no words. This is magnificent. And I just want to say congratulations to everybody.”
Before leaving the stage, she equally thanked the audience and wished them “an incredible rest of your lives.”
The Grammy-winning artist became a part of the musical’s production team in late November 2022. The musical, set in Chicago, follows two musicians who flee the city after witnessing a mob hit.
In a statement the artist gave after signing to become a co-producer of the musical comedy, she stated: “When [producer] Neil Meron shared this new take on the beloved film, I knew I had to be a part of it. To see how this show continues to expand on the film’s legacy—pushing boundaries, promoting inclusion, celebrating diversity—I’m proud to help bring Some Like It Hot for today’s world to new audiences.”
Since the show’s premiere, a video recording of Mariah’s voice is shared with the audience at the start of the musical, with the singer announcing, “At this time, please take a moment to turn off your cellphones. And remember: The use of photographic equipment and recording devices is strictly prohibited. And now, Some Like It Hot.”
The musical’s production team has previously confirmed that the singer’s voice-over will be used throughout the show’s run at Shubert Theatre.
