Married at 60! Michelle Yeoh Finally Weds After a 19-year Engagement With Jean Todt
The year 2023 is definitely turning out to be Michelle Yeoh’s year! The Everything Everywhere All At Once actress has finally tied the knot with Jean Todt, her partner of 19 years!
The 60-year-old actress said “I do” to the 77-year-old ex-CEO of Ferrari in Geneva, Switzerland, last Thursday. The news was shared by Felipe Massa, a Brazilian racing driver, on his Instagram account, with pictures and a pretty card that outlined the couple’s love story.
According to the beautiful card, Michelle and Jean first crossed paths in Shanghai, China. It showcased a sweet picture of Michelle and Jean together. And despite the whirlwind romance of Jean proposing to Michelle just two months after they first met and her saying yes, they proved that their love is enduring and lasting.
Michelle went on to say that, for the next 6,992 days or 19 years, they were engaged and, finally, tying the knot in the presence of their family and friends. You can read a brief but sweet story on the card shared on Massa’s Instagram, “We met in Shanghai on 4th June 2004. On 26th July 2004, J.T. proposed to marry M.Y, and she said YES!”
“Today, after 6992 days on 27th July 2023 in Geneva, surrounded by loving family and friends, We are so happy to celebrate this special moment together!”
Michelle is a Miss World Malaysia winner and made history this year as the first woman of Asian descent to win an Oscar. She had her Oscar award at her wedding, with the iconic recognition visible in some of the photos taken during the event.
For her special day, Michelle had two outfits. One was a lovely, ethereal beige tow-gown with a corseted bodice complete with gold embellishments, and her second outfit was a bridal-tiered skirt with a silk button-up top. Jean, on the other hand, looked dashing in his dark blue suit.
Several pictures shared with Michelle’s followers include Michelle embracing her new husband while another is with Felipe. In the snap with the racing driver, he was holding Michelle’s Oscar trophy.
The choice of venue for the couple’s wedding could be since they own an 18th-century mansion in Geneva, Switzerland. This has been Michelle and Jean’s home base when they are not both busy traveling for work. The couple also have properties in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Paris.
During one of the couple’s rare interviews with Financial Times, they shared that they met when Jean unveiled a car at an event. And thus began their fairytale romance.
Jean is a famous figure in the motorsports industry. He is equivalent to a celebrity in Formula One events, where he played a significant role in leading Ferrari to several world championships and later became the FIA president.
In 2014, Jean shared an anecdote admitting that he learned how to send an SMS or a text message as a way to woo Michelle. He even enlisted the help of Michael Schumacher, a former racing driver, for some guidance.
In the interview, Jean said, “I don’t use a computer. I don’t know how to. My maximum is SMS. I wanted to communicate with my wife. So I spoke to Michael Schumacher. We were together. He said to send an SMS. I said I don’t know how to send one. So he was the one who taught me.”
This is not the first marriage for Michelle, having been previously married to Dickson Poon, a business magnate from 1988 to 1991. While Michelle has no kids of her own, Jean has a son named Nicolas from his previous marriage.
