Matt Damon’s Recovery From Depressed State, All Thanks To Wife And Love Of His Life Luciana Barroso
Every person goes through the darkest and lowest points in life, and during these times, having someone to count on and help you get through can make all the difference. Big-time Hollywood actors and actresses are humans and can get stuck in a pit of depression, just like what happened to Matt Damon.
The actor recently shared his moment when he went through depression while shooting one of his movies—a movie whose title he didn’t drop.
Matt attributed the depression he felt to the realization that, despite all his efforts to make it work, the movie was already a losing effort. He began asking several questions that led to him feeling more dejected.
The Academy Award winner was careful not to share the title of this project, but during his recent interview with Jake’s Takes, he shared that there was a time that he reached the conclusion that although the movie was not what he hoped it to be, he would still make it.
Matt recalled, “I remember halfway through production, and you’ve still got months to go, and you’ve taken your family somewhere, you know, and you’ve inconvenienced them, and I remember my wife pulling me up because I fell into a depression about like, what have I done?”
The 52-year-old Matt reflected on how his wife, Luciano Barroso, whom he has been married to for the last 18 years, provided him with much-needed reassurance by putting the entire scenario into perspective, and this helped him overcome the depression that was starting to swallow him.
Matt remembered how Luciana told him they were here now, so it was best to focus on doing the best job possible and not on the things he had no control over.
With this advice, Matt had a wake-up call, stating, “You know, and it was like…I do pride myself, largely because of her, on being a professional actor, and what being a professional actor means is you go, and you do the 15-hour day and give it absolutely everything, even in what you know is going to be a losing effort.”
In conclusion, Matt, who is currently promoting his current film with Emily Blunt, Oppenheimer, finally realized that if he can do the movie, no matter how it will end with his best possible attitude, he can call himself a pro. And he thanked his wife for helping him realize that.
Matt and Luciana first met when the leading man was shooting Stuck On You in 2004. Luciana was then working at a bar in Miami. The two dated for two years before they got engaged.
In a private and intimate ceremony surrounded by family and close friends, the couple exchanged their “I Do’s” at the Manhattan Marriage Bureau on December 9, 2005. Matt and Luciana decided to start growing their family, and they marked it with the arrival of their daughter Isabella, who is now 17. They have two more daughters, 14-year-old Gia, and 12-year-old Stella.
Luciana has an older daughter from her previous relationship—24-year-old Alexia.
Last Tuesday, the couple was joined by three of their four daughters at the Paris premiere of Oppenheimer, a film about the development of the atomic bomb in World War II. It is a star-studded film with Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, and Florence Pugh as part of the cast.
