Matthew Stafford’s Wife Dated His Backup To Make Him Jealous
Kelly Stafford recently shared an anecdote that concerns her husband, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, during the Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe podcast.
And fans are NOT happy.
Mrs. Stafford stirred up controversy by revealing she dated her husband’s quarterback while Matthew was playing for the University of Georgia. Her motivation? To make him jealous.
Kelly, a cheerleader at the time, described how they almost didn’t make it to the end goal. She shared that while they instantly had chemistry, Matthew was initially more interested in “casual dating.”
“I didn’t know what that was,” she joked.
The couple then started an on-and-off romance.
“It wasn’t that cute of a relationship at first. I hated him,” she revealed.
“I dated the backup to p— him off, which worked. Matthew’s so sweet and a Southern gentleman and all that stuff. And the backup was the complete opposite, and it upset him,” the internet personality explained.
Plot twist: Matthew and the quarterback were also roommates which means he was privy to what she was doing.
“He would see my car there. At one point, he waited and followed me into the car. I was like, ‘This is amazing, it’s working.’ I was like, ‘Get out of my car.’ He was like, ‘He’s not right for you.’ I was like, ‘What? You can’t tell me that,” Kelly said.
The 35-year-old claimed she was surprised they ended up together. “I think if you ask anyone who knew us at Georgia if they thought we would have ended up together, four kids, they would have laughed their asses off,” she shared in the podcast.
Her comments drew criticism. Stephen A. Smith, who often appears as an NBA analyst for ESPN, took issue with the public revelation of such a personal matter through a bold post on X.
He added a video of his reaction with the caption, “Kelly Stafford, what are you doing? How is it that y’all know that men have egos and males are ego dominant? But you forget that when it comes to your own man,” the 56-year-old questioned.
“What could possibly make you… if you are Mrs. Stafford, what could possibly make you think that it is OK for you to go home after revealing to the public I kicked it with his backup? What possible, possible advantage could you peel from that with a husband of yours who you have four kids with?” he added.
A fan backed this up in the video comments section, penning “Kelly Stafford, with a HOF double major in publicizing her questionable past and embarrassing her husband and future kids, stars in a clip that won’t ever go away. Good job!”
Despite the controversy, it seems like all is fine and dandy with Mr. and Mrs. Stafford.
Kelly posted a picture of her and her beau where they looked happier than ever. The lovebirds got married in 2015 and share 4 kids: Sawyer and Chandler, 6, Hunter, 4, and Tyler, 2.
