Megan Thee Stallion Opens Up About Going From Darkness To Strength Through Fitness
In a recent interview with Women’s Health, Megan Thee Stallion, the renowned rapper, bared not just her body but also her soul. The 29-year-old artist, known for hits like Savage and Sweetest Pie, opened up about her journey to physical and mental wellness after facing a harrowing incident in 2020.
Megan shared her struggles with mental health following an altercation where she was shot and injured by rapper Tory Lanez, a former friend, in July 2020. The emotional toll of the incident persisted through the subsequent trial, which culminated in Tory’s conviction and sentencing in December 2023.
Reflecting on the aftermath, Megan revealed the profound impact the ordeal had on her mental well-being. “A lot of people didn’t treat me like I was human for a long time,” she expressed, recounting the backlash she faced on social media and from within the music industry.
Despite the pressures to maintain a façade of strength, Megan acknowledged her vulnerability, saying, “I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl. I watched people build me up, tear me down, and be confused about their expectations of me. As a Black woman, as a darker Black woman, I also feel like people expect me to take the punches, take the beating, take the lashings, and handle it with grace. But I’m human.”
During the darkest moments, Megan found solace in fitness and therapy. Admitting to initially suppressing her emotions, she eventually sought professional help, recognizing the importance of confronting her struggles head-on.
“I didn’t want to get [out] from under the covers. I stayed in my room. I would not turn the lights on. I had blackout curtains. I didn’t want to see the sun. I knew I wasn’t myself. It took me a while to acknowledge that I was depressed. But once I started talking to a therapist, I was able to be truthful with myself,” she stated.
Fitness became a cornerstone of Megan’s healing journey, offering her a means to redirect her energy and find joy amidst adversity. “Working on myself made me get into working out because I needed to focus my energy somewhere else,” she admitted.
Embracing a disciplined routine, Megan now prioritizes her physical health as a crucial component of her overall well-being.
Despite the challenges, Megan remains committed to her fitness regimen, often documenting her workouts on social media. With a mix of pilates, strength training, and cardio, she exudes confidence and strength. Megan emphasized the importance of feeling good inside and out, attributing her motivation to her stylish gym attire.
“When I’m in the gym and I’m looking at myself in the mirror doing my sets and my reps, if I don’t look fine doing it, I’m like, ‘Dang, OK girl. We need to reevaluate this. Do you want to be a pony or do you want to be a stallion?’ What I have on definitely motivates me to do better. If I look good doing my sets then I must be doing my sets good,” she shared.
