Megan Thee Stallion Shuts Down Met Gala Ban Rumors

Megan Thee Stallion has officially silenced the internet chatter: no, she was not banned from the Met Gala for sneaking out her phone. The rapper, who turned heads in a dazzling silver Michael Kors gown and a sky-high ponytail inspired by Josephine Baker, made headlines not just for her look — but for breaking one of fashion’s most sacred rules: no phones allowed inside the gala.
“People are like, ‘Oh my God, Megan, you got banned from the Met Gala,’” she told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “No, I didn’t, babe. Like, that’s not true… Anna [Wintour] loves me, babe. That’s why my phone was out.”
Megan, 30, had shared behind-the-scenes footage from inside the Met, showing her hanging out with rapper Doechii and WNBA star Angel Reese. The trio sampled the food, laughed, and even whispered to fans that they were breaking the rules. “We’re not supposed to have our phones, but we’re doing it anyway,” she admitted in the clip.
She wasn’t the only one. Celebs like Laura Harrier, Quinta Brunson, LaKeith Stanfield, Andrew Scott, and even Lewis Hamilton (a co-chair!) also posted forbidden bathroom selfies and videos. So if Megan’s guilty, she’s in very stylish company.
But let’s be honest — Megan is built for the spotlight. The rapper joked about her dramatic Met look, saying, “I wear at least 10-pound wigs all the time. I put a lot of bundles in my hair, so my neck is pretty strong.”
“I’m surprised [my neck] doesn’t have abs, but yeah. My hair was definitely light work. That was lightweight. That was a regular day,” she said further.
Aside from fashion and rumors, Megan is channeling her inner anime girl with a brand-new project: the Otaku Hottie Quest Experience, a one-of-a-kind Airbnb collaboration launching June 12.
Twelve lucky fans will step into Megan’s anime universe — cosplay, ramen, lava games, and even a 1-on-1 Mortal Kombat battle on Xbox Series X included. And yes, the “Hot Girl Coach” herself will be there in person, handing out charms to boost fans’ “Otaku Hottie Status.”
