“Music Is The Soul Of The Universe”: Céline Dion Shares Tribute To Quincy Jones
Céline Dion shared her heartbreak over the recent loss of her close friend and music legend Quincy Jones, who passed away at 91 on November 3 at his Los Angeles home. In an emotional Instagram tribute, Céline, 56, reflected on the treasured time she spent with the legendary producer, who was widely celebrated for his work with music giants like Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra.
“I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of my friend, the one and only musical genius, Quincy Jones,” she wrote alongside touching photos of herself with Quincy. She went on to describe Quincy as both a mentor and a visionary, a person whose impact on music spanned every genre, making him “someone I looked up to for his deep impact on virtually every form of American music.”
Céline and Quincy collaborated on two powerful songs: I Knew I Loved You, from the Once Upon a Time in America soundtrack, and the 2010 reimagining of We Are the World, created to aid earthquake victims in Haiti. Recalling their studio sessions, Céline called Quincy’s intuition “nothing short of profound,” adding that he could “capture ‘a little piece of heaven’ in each song.”
In her heartfelt post, Céline praised not only his musical talent but also his kindness and philanthropy. She admired his work supporting causes from global famine relief to underprivileged youth, calling him “a dream come true” collaborator and a person who truly “extends to all corners of the globe.”
Céline’s tribute included a quote from Quincy himself that holds special meaning now: “Music is the soul of the universe. It connects us all on a level that words alone cannot reach.”
Quincy’s family shared a similar sentiment in a statement, calling him “truly one of a kind.” They expressed pride in how his music and joy continue to resonate worldwide. “Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him,” he stated.
“He is truly one of a kind and we will miss him dearly; we take comfort and immense pride in knowing that the love and joy, that were the essence of his being, was shared with the world through all that he created. Through his music and his boundless love, Quincy Jones’ heart will beat for eternity,” the statement added.
