Natalie Portman Finalizes Divorce From Benjamin Millepied
In a surprising turn of events, Natalie Portman, the renowned actress, has officially concluded her divorce from Benjamin Millepied, her husband of 11 years. The divorce was quietly initiated by Portman eight months ago and was recently finalized in France, where the former couple resides with their two children, Aleph and Amalia.
Confirming the news exclusively to PEOPLE, a representative for Natalie shared insights into the couple’s journey during this period of transition. Despite the challenges they faced, Natalie’s friends provided invaluable support, helping her navigate through the difficult times.
As a friend of the couple shared with PEOPLE, “It was initially really tough for her, but her friends rallied around her and helped get her through the worst of it. Natalie is coming out of a really tough and painful year but she’s come out the other side of it stronger and is finding joy in her family, friends and work.”
Throughout their separation, Natalie and Benjamin prioritized the well-being of their children. Despite the public scrutiny surrounding their relationship, they remained committed to co-parenting and presenting a united front for their family.
“Her biggest priority has been ensuring a smooth transition for her children. She and Ben really love their kids and are equally focused on being the best co-parents they can be. Nothing is more important,” the insider said
While the media speculated about the state of their marriage, the former couple chose to address their issues privately, working towards a new equilibrium. Last June, a source told PEOPLE that Benjamin was “doing all he can to get Natalie to forgive him and keep their family together.”
Despite their respective professional commitments, including Natalie’s involvement in various projects and Benjamin’s role as a choreographer for the sequel to Dune, they remained dedicated to their family.
Now, the two are focused on creating a new normal for their family, embracing the next chapter of their lives.
“Natalie hoped her marriage would be forever but she is at peace with where they are and now focused on their new normal as a family,” a friend revealed.
