Nothing Will Keep Bruce Willis Down! This Is Amidst The Dementia Diagnosis Of The Actor.
A strong and determined clip of Hollywood action star Bruce Willis recently surfaced in a timely manner after the actor’s blended family shared the news that Bruce has been diagnosed with FTD or frontotemporal dementia.
The 2018 video showcases the Die Hard actor talking at his Comedy Central roast and jokingly telling the audience that he has defeated all different kinds of threats, “I’ve been attacked by terrorists, asteroids, film critics, divorce lawyers, male pattern baldness and none of it stopped me because I’m still Bruce Fucking Willis.”
Bruce responded humorously after his co-stars and celebrity friends mocked him. He then graciously took a small bow, as it was met with thunderous applause.
On Thursday, Bruce and his family released a statement sharing that Bruce has been diagnosed with dementia. This comes one year after the seasoned actor retired and said goodbye to Hollywood due to battling aphasia, a brain disorder.
FTD primarily impacts the lobes of the person’s brain directly behind the forehead and can cause personality changes, speaking difficulties, and obsessive behavior. Recall that one of the reasons Bruce called it quits last year was because his language skills were beginning to deteriorate. And now, the unfortunate news has come that Bruce’s condition has progressed.
Emma Heming, Bruce’s wife, and Demi Moore, his ex-wife, together with their five daughters, Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, and Evelyn, released a lengthy joint statement on The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration’s site that read, “Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s original diagnosis.
“In the spirit of that, we wanted to update you about our beloved husband, father, and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing. Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed, and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD).”
The family referenced the earlier symptom that Bruce exhibited, which was challenges in communication, as one of the indicators of FTD. And although finally getting a diagnosis was a blow, the modern family was still thankful and relieved that they knew what they were battling.
The family’s statement also helped educate people about FTD. Calling the disease cruel, Bruce’s all-girls family mentioned how many wouldn’t have known such a condition existed. Unfortunately, it can take years before it can be accurately diagnosed.
But the family remains hopeful that there will be changes in the years ahead, even if there is no cure for the disease now. They are calling the attention of the media so that they can also shift their focus on health challenges like FTD to increase awareness of the disease and support research.
Part of the official statement was, “Bruce always believed in using his voice in the world to help others and raise awareness about critical public and private issues. We know in our hearts that—if he could today—he would want to respond by bringing global attention to those who are also dealing with this debilitating disease and how it impacts so many individuals and their families.”
The family also posed a challenge to everyone, regardless of their experience in dealing with FTD, to share knowledge about it and proactively learn about it. At the same time, the family expressed their gratitude to everyone who has shown love and support to Bruce and their entire family, and they assured everyone that they would be there for Bruce so he could live a full and happy life for as long as possible.
Bruce’s three older daughters with Demi took to their Instagram accounts to rally for their father.
