Reese Witherspoon’s Divorce From Jim Toth: The True Split Factors
Many fans and friends of Legally Blonde actress Reese Witherspoon and actor Jim Toth were left in shock and disbelief after the power couple announced that they’d be divorcing.
But news surfaced that Reese and Jim had been having some marital problems already for quite a while before deciding to part ways. This announcement happened a few days short of what’s supposed to be their 12th wedding anniversary.
The ex-couple, who released their joint statement, emphasized how both enjoyed their time together as husband and wife and shared that they are moving forward “with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together.”
Although the official news was shocking, many believe that it was inevitable because it appears that the culprit of the failed marriage boils down to Jim’s midlife crisis and absence.
Jim and Reese share a son, 10-year-old James, and both parents are keen on ensuring that their child is protected throughout the process.
As mentioned, Jim’s struggle was one element of their divorce, where Reese felt like he was no longer the same person she married. A friend of the couple shared that Jim started dressing like a teenager, or at least someone half his age, and then got plenty of weird bling and tattoos.
While talking to The US Sun, the same source explained that “His [Jim’s] personality, his attitude, and his whole take on life changed when he got out of the agency business and decided he was tired of that stuffy world and being in the service business in general.”
Recall that the couple sold Hello Sunshine, their production company, in 2021 for an impressive $1 billion. After this, the money sent them chasing their goals, leading them in opposite directions.
Additionally, news that the two have been living separately for months has surfaced due to Reese’s busy and demanding schedule.
Reese is a much sought-after Hollywood actress, and because of this, the husband and wife end up having to go days without any interaction. The only time they speak to one another is to talk about family affairs, and in most cases, Jim has also missed Reese’s milestones—another issue that caused the two to drift apart.
Despite these factors contributing to their decision that it was best to divorce, an insider claimed that their marriage turned platonic over time. It was just a relationship between two people, co-parenting their child but no longer having feelings for one another. The two fell out of love.
Before announcing their separation, Reese and Jim had already quietly sorted and liquidated their joint assets, including their properties, knowing their marriage was not in the best place. For instance, they sold their Malibu farmhouse in 2020 and then three other properties in Nashville.
These were all indications that they saw the divorce coming. Reese and Jim made a joint effort to make mutual and fair decisions that were not yet clouded by any negativity or ill feelings toward one another.
The ex-couple emphasized that their divorce was mutually agreed upon and that they would remain amicable for the sake of their son.
