Regina Hall Couldn’t Keep A Straight Face, Stating Why Kevin Costner Missed the Golden Globes
The Golden Globes have marked the beginning of award season. The star-studded ceremony that was held on Tuesday, January 10th, had many standout moments, like winner Michelle Yeoh reclaiming her time and Jennifer Coolidge’s hilarious speech where she thanks Mike White, who gets emotional and drunk.
But what stole the show was Regina Hall’s losing battle with the teleprompter live on air. The comedy actor graced the stage to present the Best Actor in a TV Drama Series Award, which went to Kevin Costner for his role in Yellowstone.
The Girls Trip actress could barely keep a straight face as she shared the reason behind Costner’s absence. It was obvious she could hardly believe what she was reading, breaking into laughter and faux concern.
In his message, the Oscar-winning star explained how the storm had a big effect on his family and was the reason why he could not make it.
Costner said, “Yesterday, we had to pull the kids out of school and in Santa Barbara, this is the second time in five years, in town, that the freeway’s flooded out. We found ourselves on the wrong side of the town, and we couldn’t get back last night and couldn’t even get back to the house this morning in time.”
The message went on to say how no one was sadder than themselves and that they were prepared for the event, with outfits and all.
A smiling Hall said, “He so much wanted to be here, but because of the unprecedented weather and flooding, he has to shelter in place in Santa Barbara. Jesus.”
This drew laughter from the audience, while she continued, “This is a sad story right now. He’s stuck in Santa Barbara. Let’s pray, everyone. No, that’s awful. No, no, no, this is true. Everyone, we do pray, we hope everyone affected by these storms remains safe, and I’m going to accept that award right there on your behalf, Kevin.”
Soon enough, netizens responded, but the reactions were very mixed. While some claimed the actress must be given an Emmy for the stunt alone, others were not very happy with the actress’s “poor taste”.
Prior to the ceremony, Costner had tweeted a video apologizing to everyone on his and his wife’s behalf for not being able to attend the ceremony.
And after winning, he tweeted again, saying, “Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press and @goldenglobes for this tremendous honor and to the @Yellowstone team for bringing John Dutton’s world to life. I share this recognition with my castmates, the producers, and our incredible crew. Most of all, thank you to our show’s fans, who love Yellowstone Ranch as if it were their own.”
