Rihanna Becomes Twitter Queen With 108.3 Million Followers, Dethroning Katy Perry
Katy Perry needs to pass the crown over to fellow hitmaker Rihanna because RiRi just became the most followed woman on Twitter!
The 35-year-old pregnant mother has now garnered 108.3 million followers on Twitter. This spike in her social media following came after the pop star’s spectacular Super Bowl halftime performance and after news that she will be starring in the forthcoming The Smurfs Movie.
In second place is the 38-year-old Katy Perry, with a whopping 108.1 million Twitter followers.
Aside from Rihanna’s comeback show and announcement that she is expecting her second child, her fanbase on Twitter was also bumped big time after she released her Easter photos with her 11-month-old son last April 11.
According to Just Jared, the images she shared with her family, including rapper beau A$AP Rocky portrayed another side of RiRi — that of a doting mother and partner, aside from being a powerful performer. Surprisingly enough, A$AP Rocky has not tweeted anything yet since the release of their photos.
On the other hand, Katy has also seen a lot of ups in her personal as well as professional life. Apart from being a successful singer, she is also mother to 2-year-old Daisy, whom she shares with partner Orlando Bloom. The “I Kissed A Boy” hitmaker’s last tweet was dated April 26, where she shared with her fans some glamorous shots, captioned, “Tonight I’m celebrating one of my all-time favorite comediennes… it’s Carol Burnett’s 90th birthday, and I’m singing a special song!”
She added, “Watch tonight 8/7c on NBC and streaming on Peacock #CarolBurnett90.”
Katy has been on Twitter for four years, initially joining in February 2009. Rihanna joined the same year in October.
Other celebrities and high-profile people included in the top ten most-followed list are Cristiano Ronaldo, Lady Gaga, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Taylor Swift, and Barack Obama.
Katy and Rihanna share a close friendship, going back to 2009. Katy, born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, celebrated the birth of Rihanna’s child. When she was asked back then by E! News for any advice for new mom Rihanna, the “Firework” singer encouraged RiRi to just soak it all in.
During that time, the 13-time Grammy nominee said she was happy for Rihanna and congratulated her. She also acknowledged that being a new mom is a precious time for her friend.
And the support that these ladies show each other doesn’t end there, because Katy was also seen cheering for Rihanna during her 2023 Super Bowl halftime show. Last November, during Katy’s appearance on the LADbible TV’s YouTube channel, she was also gracious and hopeful that Rihanna would break her halftime show performance record!
Last Thursday, Rihanna made a surprise appearance at the CinemaCon Day 4 held at the Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and revealed that she would be the voice behind Smurfette in the live-action film. She even joked that she tried getting Papa Smurf’s role but could have been more successful.
The movie is set to be released in February 2025.
