Russell Brand Described Previous Week as “Distressing and Extraordinary”
Russell Brand received multiple and extremely serious allegations last week. These included sexual assault, rape, and emotional abuse. A few days ago, he broke his silence and called the last 7 days an “extraordinary and distressing week.”
The comedian facing these accusations uploaded a three-minute video where he first thanked his followers for their unwavering support and for questioning the information.
Taking everything in stride, Russell announced that he would be back on Rumble, an online video platform while his adverts on his YouTube channel were suspended. Note that in Rumble, subscribers must pay a minimum fee of $60 to watch.
Russell rambled on about the recently released video that contained shocking revelations about him. He even accused the UK government of allowing big technology platforms to censor his content.
Recall that last week, several women stepped forward and accused the 48-year-old comedian of different counts of rape and sexual assault. All these incidents happened while Russell was at the height of his popularity and fame.
So far, all the allegations happened between 2003 and 2013, with one sexual assault occurring in his LA home. There was also one accusation where he allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old girl.
Russell vehemently denied both. He mentioned that all of his relationships were consensual. His newly uploaded video was the first time he broke his silence aside from the video he uploaded prior to Channel 4’s release of its show about him.
In his latest video uploaded on X and Instagram, the celebrity also said, “What you may not know is that this happens in the context of the online safety bill, which is a piece of UK legislation that grants sweeping surveillance and censorship powers, and it’s a law that’s already been passed.”
Russell added, “I also don’t imagine you’ve heard of the trusted news initiative. Now, as often is the case when a word like trusted is used as part of an acronym to describe an unelected body, trust is the last thing you should be offering. The trusted news initiative is a collaboration between big tech and legacy media organizations to target, patrol, choke, and shut down independent media organizations like this one.”
Russell’s new video was made public just a few hours after another woman claimed that he made her vulnerable and felt intimidated after Russell refused to call a taxi and did not allow her to leave until she performed oral sex on him.
According to the victim named Sarah, she first met Russell on a flight. She saw him as charming and friendly, prompting her to accept his invitation to have breakfast with him and go for a walk.
Unfortunately, Russell’s behavior changed when they got into the car. Inside the limo, he became aggressive with her. Sarah told Sky News that Russell jumped and ripped holes in her tights while traveling. The victim said she clearly uttered the word “no” multiple times to all of the actor’s advances. This prompted their driver to turn around and find out what was happening in the back seat.
Sarah and Russell ended up having consensual sex in his house, but the woman expressed second thoughts, saying, “I mean, it was consensual. I didn’t say no, but I feel like there’s a fine line between being forced and being coerced, you know, like being in a situation where the only way out is just to get it over and done with and leave.”
Aside from Sarah, another woman named Olivia stepped forward, accusing Russell of exposing himself to her in a BBC office in Los Angeles in 2008.
Until now, police are encouraging all victims to make themselves known.
