Ryan Gosling Reveals Burt Reynolds Used To Crush On His Mum
In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ryan Gosling, 43, shared anecdotes from his early days as an actor, including memories of working with the late Burt Reynolds on the 1996 film Frankenstein and Me.
Ryan chuckled as Jimmy brought up his first movie role, reminiscing about his character Kenny in Frankenstein and Me. The conversation veered towards Gosling’s latest project, The Fall Guy, where he portrays stuntman Colt Seavers, a nod to Reynolds’ own background as a stuntman-turned-actor.
Reflecting on his interactions with Burt, Ryan admitted to feeling a special connection, only to realize that Burt may have been more interested in Ryan’s mom, Donna, who accompanied him to the Oscars earlier this year.
Referring to the time he spent with Burt on set as “complicated,” Ryan added, “Because I thought he took a shine to me. I thought he thought there was something special about me. And then I realized that I have a really beautiful mom.”
Despite initially feeling overshadowed by his mom’s allure, Ryan joked about the situation, admitting he wished he had figured it out sooner.
“He was just kind of interested. It was like I was getting like a secondary shine. The real shine was for my mom. And I was like, ‘Oh, this is secondary shine,'” he said.
Asked by Jimmy how long it took him to realize that Burt had a crush on his mum, the actor indicated that he took a while, as he said, “I wish I had found out sooner.”
He clarified that while his mom enjoyed the attention, nothing romantic ever occurred between her and Burt.
Kimmel playfully suggested that Ryan could have been as famous as “Ryan Reynolds,” as Burt would have been his stepfather, prompting laughter from the audience.
Ryan then shared an unusual piece of advice he received from Burt, emphasizing his confusion as a young teenager.
Recounting Burt’s words, Ryan said, “Don’t spend your whole life stepping over diamonds to live with a cubic zirconia.”
“I was like, ‘I’m 13. I don’t know what any of those things are.’ I don’t know what any of that is. Stop looking at my mom. I’m right here,” the Barbie actor added.
