Ryan Reynolds Says He Just Discovered Wife Blake Lively’s Real Last Name As She Launches Hair Care Line
Ryan Reynolds is shining a spotlight on his wife Blake Lively’s latest achievement and learning new things about her in the process. This week, Blake launched her long-awaited hair care line, Blake Brown, and Ryan took to Instagram Stories to express his pride.
In his post, Ryan, 47, shared, “I’m obscenely proud of this woman. She’s been working on @blakebrownbeauty for 7 years. And the result is exactly what you’d expect from a hyper-obsessive, detail-addicted, uncompromising quality control genius.”
He then chipped in a shocking piece of information, writing, “Also, I just found out her last name is Brown.”
Blake, 36, shed light on this new revelation during an event in New York City celebrating the launch of her hair care line. She explained that “Brown” is her father’s name.
“My dad took Lively from my mom, which is her story to tell. It’s a longer, much more interesting story. But I just thought it was really cool. My mom had three kids and he was like, ‘I’m not going to take their name from them, I’m not going to make them take my name. I’ll just take their name,’” she shared.
“That was before I was born, well before I was born,” she revealed.
The Gossip Girl actress further detailed, “My dad took on Lively, and I’ve only ever been called Blake Lively, but Blake Brown was on my birth certificate and then would show up in legal documents here and there. It was always kind of like an identity I never fully stepped into, yet it was the most intimate identity of mine because it’s the most personal name.”
The actress revealed that naming her hair care line Blake Brown was a deeply personal choice, connecting her to her family’s story. Her father, actor Ernie Lively, who starred alongside Blake in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, passed away in 2021.
Meanwhile, Ryan and Blake, who got married in 2012 and are parents to four children, have been publicly supporting each other recently. As Ryan’s film Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters, Blake reminisced on Instagram about their early days together, recalling when Ryan first introduced her to the concept of the Deadpool character back in 2010.
“It was a ‘meta’ superhero,” she wrote, adding, “Most of us didn’t know what exactly meta meant back then. Except [Taika Waititi] bc he’s always been more brilliant than the rest of us mortals. We understood in theory, but how it would come together for an audience was murky, for everyone but [Reynolds].”
