Sam Smith Tells BBC Presenter He Would Love To Be A “Fisher-them”
Sam Smith recently appeared on the BBC The One Show, where they corrected one of the hosts for misgendering them during their discussion.
During the interview, the nonbinary singer reveals their secret love for fishing and their interest in returning to fishing after their music career. The hosts, Ronan Keating and Alex Jones, immediately picked interest in the singer’s interest in fishing.
To gain more information, one of the hosts, Ronan, asks Sam: “You’re a big fan of fishing?” The second host, Alex, asks: “What, like a fly fisherman?”
The Unholy singer immediately corrected the host saying: “I’d be any type of fisher-them.”
“I think I would like to, one day, I’d just like to end my days fishing. Like sitting on a bank. I do it on the sea, and I do it on lakes. I’ve never done it alone, someone’s almost taught me,” they added.
Sam Smith was recently criticized for their BRIT Awards performance at the London O2 Arena on Saturday, where they performed Unholy with fellow nonbinary star Kim Petras.
Speaking to MailOnline, the spokesperson for Ofcom told the publication, “We received 106 complaints about The BRIT Awards on ITV1 on 11 February. Most complaints related to Sam Smith’s performance, with the remainder about the use of offensive language and consumption of alcohol.”
That’s not the only time the Too Good at Goodbyes hitmaker has made the headline this month. Following their Grammy performance with German singer Kim Petras on February 5, many viewers condemned the performance as “satanic.”
However, the singer is “tired of pushing” the drawbacks of expressing “private” themes within their songs and feels the need to “break out” from that, as they shared with Rolling Stone UK.
Speaking about their latest album, Gloria, where the single Unholy appears, the British artist says it centers around learning and relearning the art of self-love. They explain further that the music they make now has moved away from where they were in their 20s into their 30s, hinting that songs that represented their 20s were Too Good at Goodbyes and Stay With Me.
On January 27, their fourth album, Gloria, chronicling where they are at with self-acceptance and love, was launched. Since entering the music industry, Sam, alongside Kim Petras has made history as the first non-binary person to top global charts.
