Selena Gomez’s Musical Icon Revealed: Surprise, It’s Kurt Cobain!
On a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Selena Gomez dropped a bombshell about her childhood music idol, leaving fans and the host himself stunned. Despite being known for her pop prowess, the 31-year-old actress revealed that her ultimate music crush was none other than the legendary Kurt Cobain, frontman of the iconic band Nirvana.
Growing up, Selena was deeply enamored with Cobain’s music and persona, despite the tragic end to his life. She reminisced about her mom playing various tunes, but it was Kurt’s raw sound that captured her heart. “I just think my mom, obviously, would play all kinds of music for me growing up,” she shared.
Her admiration for Kurt went beyond just listening to his music, as she confessed to emulating his style, even going as far as dyeing and cutting her hair to match his iconic look. “I kind of got obsessed and dyed my hair and cut my hair like him. I know a little too much,” she stated.
Her fandom didn’t stop there. The Come And Get It singer confessed to watching Kurt’s interviews repeatedly, studying his performances, and even immersing herself in his documentary multiple times. She was a true superfan, with posters of her idol adorning her bedroom walls.
Although she hadn’t publicly discussed her adoration for Kurt before, Selena dropped subtle hints over the years, from dyeing her hair blonde in a ’90s-inspired nod to Nirvana to captioning Instagram posts with references to the band’s songs.
The reference to Kurt’s band, Nirvana, didn’t end there. Selena’s Instagram posts featuring captions like “all apologies” and images resembling the band’s logo with Xs over her eyes further hinted at her admiration for Cobain.
Even Courtney Love, Kurt’s widow, showed Selena some love by covering one of her hit songs at a GLAAD event in 2017.
Despite her rockstar admiration, Selena hasn’t strayed far from her pop roots. Recently, she delighted fans with the release of her new track Love On, a flirtatious ode to romance inspired by her love for Paris. The accompanying music video, directed by Greg Ohrel, showcased the singer’s sultry side, earning praise from both fans and her boyfriend, Benny Blanco.
While Selena continues to dominate the music scene with her pop hits, she’s also set to take on a new challenge in the upcoming Linda Ronstadt biopic.
Support for Gomez’s latest release has poured in, including from her boyfriend Benny Blanco, who recently expressed his excitement on her Instagram post.
