Seth Rogen’s Lead Actor Role Earns Him First Emmy
Seth Rogen just earned the biggest laugh of his career and it came with an Emmy in hand.
The 43-year-old star of The Studio won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series at the 77th annual Emmy Awards on September 14, marking his very first Emmy win after nine nominations. Looking both stunned and amused on stage, Seth admitted he hadn’t prepared a single word.
“This is amazing. I so could not wrap my head around this happening that I literally prepared nothing. I’ve never won anything in my life,” he said.
Always one for a good story, Seth recalled his childhood “trophy,” a youth bowling award he bought at an estate sale. “…My parents were like, ‘Yeah, that’s a good idea. You should probably buy that,’” he laughed.
After thanking his wife, mom, agents, managers, writers, costars and guest stars, he wrapped things up in true Rogen fashion: short, awkward and sweet. “Thank you so much. This is really just so lovely. I don’t know, I don’t know what to say. This is so nice. Thank you. I appreciate you all. Have a good one!”
Seth beat out a stacked category that included Adam Brody (Nobody Wants This), Jason Segel (Shrinking), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), and Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building).
The Studio, which Seth created, wrote and directed with longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg, was inspired by his lifelong love of movies and the chaos of Hollywood. “We are believers in the magic of the movies and we know nothing else,” he told PEOPLE earlier this year. The Apple TV+ comedy has already been renewed for season two, with Seth also nominated for writing, directing, and Outstanding Comedy Series.
His win made the night extra special, but it was far from the only headline. Brody celebrated his first-ever nomination for playing a rabbi who falls for Kristen Bell in Nobody Wants This. Jason returned to the category for his role in Shrinking, where he navigates grief and ethics with Harrison Ford. Jeremy, who already had back-to-back wins for The Bear, remained the fan-favorite but walked away empty-handed this time. And Martin, at 75, became the oldest actor nominated in the category, continuing his run of Emmy acclaim.
