Shakira Announces Upcoming Album Release, First In Seven Years
Shakira, the celebrated Colombian singer, is set to ignite a sizzling hot girl summer with the announcement of her 12th studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), slated for release on March 22. This eagerly anticipated album marks her triumphant return to the music scene after a seven-year hiatus.
In a Thursday press release, Shakira revealed that the album is a testament to resilience and the transformative power of music, stating, “Making this body of work has been an alchemical process. While writing each song I was rebuilding myself. While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”
The album, consisting of 16 tracks, will feature a combination of eight never-before-heard songs, a remix, and seven previously released singles, including collaborations with renowned artists like Karol G and Rauw Alejandro.
Shakira’s resurgence in the music industry follows her receipt of the prestigious Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards, recognizing her outstanding contributions to the art form. This accolade came amidst significant personal changes, notably her separation from longtime partner Gerard Piqué in June 2022.
Reflecting on her journey during her acceptance speech at Billboard’s Woman of the Year ceremony, the Hips Don’t Lie singer emphasized the transformative power of self-discovery for women. “It’s been a year where I’ve realized we women are stronger than we think, braver than we believed, more independent than we were taught to be,” she shared.
Addressing her own experiences, Shakira highlighted the importance of self-love and authenticity, stating, “But there comes a time in the life of every woman where she no longer depends on someone else to love and accept herself just as she is. A time when the search for someone else is replaced by the search for oneself.”
In a resounding message of empowerment, Shakira affirmed the shift from seeking external validation to prioritizing self-acceptance and authenticity. “A time when the desire to be perfect is replaced by the desire to be authentic, and where finding someone who is faithful is less important than being faithful to ourselves,” she declared.
