Shakira Asks Media To Respect Her Kids’ Privacy Rights Ahead Of Miami Move
The Hips Don’t Lie singer uploaded an Instagram post urging the paparazzi to respect her two sons’ privacy as they prepare for their move to Miami.
The 46-year-old singer opened her post by writing, “At this moment of changes in my life as a public figure, it is understandable that there is a permanent curiosity from the press around me and my family. Yet my children, Milan and Sasha have lived a very difficult year, suffering an incessant siege and relentless pursuit by paparazzi and various media in Barcelona.”
She requested that the media respect her sons’ right to privacy while suggesting some ground rules to help the kids transition to a new place.
She concluded her request to the paparazzi by writing, “I extend this petition no longer as an artist, but as a mother who wants to protect and care for the psychological and emotional well-being of her children so that they can live a healthy and happy life, as every child deserves.”
Earlier this month, the songstress revealed that she’d be moving from Barcelona to Miami with her two sons, 7-year-old Sasha and 9-year-old Milan. The move will bring the family of three closer to the singer’s maternal family and her £12 million mansion, which she reportedly set up after her split from Gerard Piqué.
However, the timeline of the move was no surprise to the fans once they learned of the eviction letter Piqué’s father had served Shakira. The notice asked the singer to leave the Barcelona residency before April 30.
While both Piqué and Shakira mentioned prioritizing their kids in separate interviews, Shakira did receive full custody of her sons before leaving Barcelona. An arrangement that became public soon after news of the eviction notice went public.
The singer has spent almost a decade in Spain since getting together with the former footballer. The two met for the first time in 2010 and made their relationship public the very next year.
And the rest is history.
The couple never got married, and they managed to keep their relationship private and low-key for the majority of the 11 years they were together. This was until news of their split made the headlines, again catapulting the couple and their kids into the limelight.
The couple announced their split in July 2022, when Shakira allegedly discovered Piqué cheating on her with his current girlfriend, Clara Chía. The news made global headlines, resulting in “relentless persecution” by the paparazzi, the singer reports.
The persecution has been equally harsh on her ex, who responded to the whole fiasco by stating, “So my ex is Latin American… you don’t know what I’ve gotten on social media from her fans. These people have no lives.”
It has indeed been a rough couple of years for the singer, who’s also set to stand trial over an alleged tax evasion case in Spain.
In the meantime, Shakira also released her single BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53, which is a collaboration with Argentine DJ Bizarrap. The track is said to be a dig at Shakira’s ex and his 23-year-old girlfriend.
