Shakira Honored With Bronze Statue In Hometown
In a heartwarming tribute to one of Colombia’s most beloved musical icons, Shakira, a stunning bronze statue has been unveiled in her hometown of Barranquilla. The Grammy-winning singer, who has captured the hearts of millions around the world, shared the exciting news on her Instagram account.
The magnificent statue, crafted by the talented artist Yino Márques, captures Shakira in one of her iconic dance moves from her 2005 music video, Hips Don’t Lie.
Shakira proudly posted a series of photos featuring her family at the site of the new landmark. In the first photo, she celebrated her mother’s birthday alongside her parents, William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia Ripoll Torrado, with the imposing statue in the background.
“It makes me happy to share this with my parents and especially my mother on her birthday. ❤️ ❤️,” the singer wrote in the caption.
The singer also shared images of her parents and brothers with the Mayor of Barranquilla, highlighting the local community’s involvement in this heartwarming celebration. A solo shot of the statue itself and its dedication plaque was also included in the photo carousel.
Shakira was clearly moved by the dedication of her statue, as she wrote, “This is too much for my little heart.”
The inscription on the dedication plaque paid tribute to the multifaceted talents that define Shakira’s career.
“A heart that composes, hips that do not lie, an unmatched talent, a voice that moves masses, and bare feet that march for the good of childhood and humanity,” the dedication read.
The recognition for Shakira’s contributions to music didn’t stop there. Spotify, recognizing her incredible impact, declared September 29th as “Shakira Day.” This honor came about following the viral #ShakiraDeservesADay campaign initiated by her devoted Colombian fanbase.
In an interview with Spotify’s For the Record, Shakira expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support of her fans throughout her career. “The role that my fans have played in my career is impossible to quantify. They’ve known how to understand me better than anybody, and they’ve carried me to where I am today with their unwavering support,” she acknowledged.
For Shakira, Colombia has always been a wellspring of inspiration, as she stated, “Colombia is a never-ending source of inspiration: for colors, culture, sounds, stories, folklore, and food. It’s such a rich culture, and I’m so grateful to have been raised where I was and have it be my lifelong muse.”
