Simon Cowell Admitted That Even Without His E-Bike Accident, He Was Close To Spending The Rest Of His Life In A Wheelchair
Everything indeed happens for a reason, and Simon Cowell recently shared that he was so close to being trapped in a wheelchair after that awful electric bike accident that happened to him three years ago.
The TV personality, best known for his frank and sometimes cruel comments as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, provided an insight into his overall health and lifestyle changes after claiming that the accident was a wake-up call challenging him to look at life from an entirely new perspective.
The 63-year-old worked on his health and has since lost three stones and stopped smoking. Back then, at the height of his smoking addiction, Simon admitted to being able to consume 80 cigarettes in a single day.
Recall that in August 2020, Simon was left almost paralyzed after breaking his back in multiple places. This was when the X Factor creator tested an electric bike in his Malibu home. Things turned nasty when he fell from the bike, so a much-needed surgery that lasted for six hours was performed.
The grueling surgery involved placing a metal rod in Simon’s back, and while recovering, Simon admitted that he felt helpless.
Back then, he shared, “I was so close to living the rest of my life in a wheelchair; it gives you a completely different outlook. In a positive way.”
The Got Talent franchise creator further explained, “It hurt – trust me – when it happened, but good things happened off the back of it.”
The positive part about the experience is that it made Simon realize that his health precedes everything. Because of this new outlook, he did a complete lifestyle overhaul to ensure he achieved the work-life balance he didn’t have before.
Fans and followers were shocked recently because of his changing appearance. Many attribute the physical changes to surgery and a facelift, but Simon insisted that he never had any of these procedures done on his face.
Simon also revealed that he ultimately gave up smoking in March after getting laryngitis, and, in the bid to give up the vice completely, he has transitioned to vaping. He shared, “I am now vaping, so I am not quite out of the woods, but I have not had a cigarette in about three or four weeks.”
Additionally, Simon also made changes when it came to working because, back then, it was normal for him to work through the entire night, but with his recent health scare, his limit is now set to 6 p.m. He is also no longer working during his rest days.
Making these changes is not just for Simon’s health; he also expressed his desire to continue spending plenty of time with his son, Eric. The nine-year-old boy is Simon’s only son with long-time partner Lauren Silverman.
The music mogul claimed that he spent so much time with Eric during the pandemic and realized he didn’t want anything to change, so he kept the routine and hours with his child.
