Six Years After: Zayn Malik Speaks Out About “Shoving” Yolanda Hadid and Co-Parenting with Ex, Gigi
It’s been six years, and Zayn Malik is breaking his silence for the first time after the confrontation between him and Yolanda Hadid, the mother of his former girlfriend, Gigi Hadid.
Recall that back then, the confrontation between Zayn and Yolanda didn’t go well for the former One Direction icon, who was charged with four counts of harassment. The 30-year-old pleaded no contest after he was accused of pushing Gigi’s mom into a dresser in September. During the altercation, it was alleged that Zayn called Yolanda a “f*****g Dutch sl*t.
Due to this, Zayn was mandated to complete 360 days of probation and finish an anger management class.
When Zayn appeared on the podcast Call Her Daddy, the singer shared that during that time, he believed that he handled the situation in the best possible way and even called the entire incident a family issue.
He also highlighted how much he values time and didn’t want to waste time and be involved with everything happening online then. He also felt that there was no need for him to justify himself. During the podcast, Zayn mentioned I dealt with it best, and that’s all that needs to be said. There were a lot of negativities.”
Adding further, “They’re family issues I’d rather keep in the family. I’m very hands-on with my child; I would take it if I could have 60%.”
Throughout the ordeal, Gigi declined to comment. Still, a statement was released by her representative, advising that the model’s priority is Khai, the daughter she shared with Zayn, and he was requesting privacy during that time.
For Zayn, he mentioned then that he was trying to protect his daughter and was consistent in stating that he did not strike the older Yolanda at any point in their argument.
Aside from what happened in the past, the podcast also discussed Zayn’s co-parenting with Gigi and described their relationship as good, with both parents sharing the same commitment to their daughter. They’ll always be putting Khai first.
Zayn, currently based in Pennsylvania, shared his desire to want a more private life for his daughter and that he feels that he has renewed his childhood through Khai. Explaining his side, Zayn shared that Khai didn’t choose to be famous. That’s why they’re living on a farm.
He said that contrary to conclusions, as a father, he is not shielding Khai from fame because she knows that her daughter will get to the age where she will be aware of what’s happening.
The young dad concluded, “I’m trying to give her an option and choose if she wants to be away from it; she can come here. She will have a lot of options, and whatever she wants to do in life, she can do.”
The current co-parenting setup of Zayn and Gigi has them getting equal shares of 50% spending time with their daughter, and Zayn is keen on making sure that his time with his daughter is well-spent because of how Khai is growing up too fast.
He mentioned that when he has her daughter with him, he doesn’t work and dedicates the entire day to doing what Khai wants. And the proud dad even commended her daughter for being good at harmonizing with him and said that at age 2, Khai could already hit high notes, much to his delight.
