Supermodel Linda Evangelista Opens Up About Her Extreme Weight Loss Methods
More than most people, models go to great lengths to maintain their looks and bodies. Former supermodel Linda Evangelista recently admitted some extreme choices she’s made to keep her weight down.
In a podcast interview with Ruth Rogers, the owner of River Café, Linda revealed how she resorted to using harmful cleanses. When she reached her late 20s, the model attended £10,000-a-week programs where she would undergo starvation diets.
By the time she was nearing her 30s, Linda said that she was finding it more difficult to keep her weight in check.
During the interview, the Canadian-born supermodel recounted what that was like and how her metabolism notably slowed. “Back in the day, I could eat anything. It started to slow down close to 30. I started to work out when I was 27/28 because things were a little different. I know that when I was flying every other day and working and running around jet settling and globe-trotting, I had to work on keeping the weight on, and then came the period when I really had to watch,” she said.
Linda is now 58 years old, but she still remembers how important master cleanses were for her. The demanding program required participants to live on saltwater and herbal laxatives for ten days.
She recalled, “I started doing cleanses all the time, and I loved doing those cleanses, but I think they were very harmful to me. I did the master cleanse quite a few times, but I would do medicinal cleanses, like a powder drink, the rice base, or I would go to We Care once or twice a year for a week.”
“It’s out in the desert near Palm Springs, Palm Desert, and you just do liquids, mostly waters with lemon and mints and teas, and you get a glass of juice a day, and you get a diluted watered-down vegetable once a day called a soup,” she continued.
In hindsight, Linda realizes how unhealthy her habits were. She revealed, “It’s basically a starvation diet; it’s amazing. I will never do the deprivation; I won’t do that again.”
Aside from the shocking revelation, Linda also recently criticized the fashion industry—or at least, how it was 30 years ago. Back then, she was one of the most in-demand models. Linda was so successful that she once famously said that she would never get out of bed for anything less than $10,000 a day. But behind the money and glamor, Linda said that there was an underlying and massive pressure to be model-thin.
She admitted that today, fashion has shifted and become more flexible, to the point where the industry has become willing to welcome women of different sizes. It’s a distant reality from the 90s when models had to adapt to the clothing.
Linda also revealed last year that she went through a fat-freezing procedure called CoolSculpting. Unfortunately, it left her brutally and permanently disfigured.
