Taylor Lautner Speaks About Nerve-Wracking Backflip Stunt At Taylor Swift’s Concert
In a recent interview on The Tonight Show, Taylor Lautner took a delightful trip down memory lane as he recounted a heart-pounding moment at Taylor Swift’s July Eras Tour stop in Kansas City, Missouri.
The evening at Arrowhead Stadium was nothing short of spectacular, as it marked the public reunion of Lautner and Swift, two stars who had once portrayed a couple in the 2010 movie Valentine’s Day. Lautner, now 31, shared a unique coping mechanism for dealing with nervousness – he performs backflips. According to him, when faced with anxiety, he transforms into a gymnast.
He vividly recounted the moment he stepped onto the catwalk, which stretched an impressive 60 yards down the field. The sheer length of it made him nervous, and he admitted thinking, “This is going to be so uncomfortable.” However, rather than succumbing to his jitters, he made the bold decision to go full gymnast mode and backflip his way down the catwalk, paying homage to the tumbling stunts his character performed in Valentine’s Day.
Intriguingly, Lautner also shared the fascinating story of how Swift, 33, reached out to him to participate in her music video for I Can See You, which was released on Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) earlier in the year as one of the re-recorded album’s From the Vault tracks.
““I was at home. It was like a morning around 9 a.m. I get a call from my manager and he goes, ‘You will never believe who I got a call from this morning.’ And I go, ‘I wouldn’t, so why don’t you tell me?’ And he goes, ‘Taylor Swift’s manager, and she wanted to see if she can get your new updated cell phone number and reach out,’” he shared.
“I was like, ‘OK…did they say what about?’ He’s like, ‘Not really … do you want to talk to your wife [Tay Dome Lautner] about this and make sure this is OK?’ Meanwhile, wife is right in the kitchen there and she’s freaking out, and I go, ‘No, by the signs of it I think she’s gonna be just fine.’ She’s the biggest Swiftie ever, so automatic permission,” he added.
In the music video, Lautner shared the screen with Joey King and Presley Cash, both of whom had previously collaborated with Swift on her 2012 video for Mean. During the video’s premiere at Swift’s Kansas City show, all three stars took to the stage, but it was Lautner who stole the spotlight with his daring backflips.
Swift herself acknowledged Lautner’s valuable contribution and their enduring friendship. She praised him for being a positive influence during the making of her Speak Now album and revealed that he had performed all the stunts in the music video.
