Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave Speaks About Staying Positive Through Battle With Melanoma
Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave, known from her time on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is sharing her journey with melanoma while emphasizing the importance of a positive attitude, even when facing health challenges.
In an Instagram Story Q&A on Tuesday, the 42-year-old reality TV star addressed a question from a fan who inquired about how she manages to keep up a brave and positive outlook in the face of her health conditions.
Teddi responded with honesty, saying, “Instagram can be an illusion. There are times when I’m definitely positive and brave but there are also times where I feel really sad and down and anxious. I just know that they come in waves and I have to kinda listen to myself and do what feels best to me.”
She emphasized the significance of physical activity for her mental well-being but acknowledged her limitations due to ongoing surgery recovery. “I’m having one of those days where I feel pretty down today. But I think the big thing is just being open and vulnerable with the people that you love so that they can help support you. And know that you’re not alone and we can do this all together,” she stated.
Teddi has been open about her melanoma journey on social media. Last week, she shared a photo on Instagram displaying the large scar from her recent surgery to remove melanoma from her back, happily announcing that she’s now clear of skin cancer.
She quoted her oncologist’s message, saying, “Final report is all good. Some atypical areas, but no melanoma. We’ll have to keep a close watch on you, but all good now. I’ll want to see you in about 3 months. Sooner if you have any concerns.”
Expressing her gratitude, she added, “I am forever grateful to my incredible doctors, nurses, family, and friends. I absolutely will be diligent with my 3-month checkups. Please be the same with your skin checks.”
She also chipped in some humor, writing, “And, yes, I had to google what atypical meant. Don’t know why doctors have to use such big words.”
Teddi’s battle with melanoma began with her first diagnosis of stage 2 melanoma in October 2022. Since then, she has experienced 12 more melanoma cases, each a stark reminder of the importance of regular skin checks and prompt medical attention.
In December of the same year, she spoke to PEOPLE about her mission to raise awareness. “Skin checks are essential. We’ve seen how quickly it can turn from one melanoma to 12. So when your doctor says, ‘See you in three months,’ it’s three months,” she emphasized.
