Tina Knowles Clears The Air After Instagram “Like” Controversy
Tina Knowles, the mother of Beyoncé, found herself in the middle of a social media storm after she accidentally liked an Instagram post critical of ticket prices for Janet Jackson’s Together Again Tour. But in an Instagram video, she set the record straight, emphasizing her respect for the iconic singer and her commitment to avoiding negativity.
The Instagram post that caused the stir featured a screenshot of various VIP packages for Janet’s tour, including a “Gold Janet Jackson VIP Lounge Package” priced at $839.95 and an “Ultimate Janet Jackson Meet and Greet & VIP Lounge Package” exceeding $2,000. The user who posted it expressed their dissatisfaction, saying, “You want Beyoncé prices, have real production. Just disgusted.”
Tina, 70, unintentionally clicked the “like” button on this post, which led to speculations of drama brewing between her and Janet. However, Tina was quick to address the misunderstanding in an Instagram video posted on Wednesday morning.
In her video, Tina explained, “I received a phone call that I’m trending for liking a post about ticket prices and an artist overcharging. First of all, being on the other side of that, I know better than anyone what a great production costs, and that it’s expensive.” Tina, who attended many shows on Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour last year, emphasized her understanding of the production costs in the entertainment industry.
She then expressed her utmost respect for Janet, calling the 57-year-old Nasty singer the “queen of production” and stating that the Jackson family is “the First Family of music.” She made it clear that she would never criticize another artist, especially someone as iconic as Janet. Tina also clarified that she always strives to stay away from negativity and does not engage in online drama.
The Texas native admitted to her “big mistake” of liking posts without thoroughly reading them when she’s in a hurry. She added, “…I trust that these are people that I follow. That was a big mistake.” Tina took full responsibility for the incident, vowing never to repeat it.
In the caption of her post, Tina expressed her sadness over the misunderstanding and reiterated her admiration for Janet. She shared a personal connection between Jackson and her daughter Beyoncé, highlighting the doors Janet opened for Beyoncé in the music industry.
Looking ahead, Tina Knowles promised to be more careful with her social media interactions, acknowledging that her likes are visible to others. “I know now not to be in a rush and to be very careful. (I learned my lesson)! Especially when I have so much going on… I just wanted to clarify,” she wrote.
Janet recently announced an extension of her Together Again Tour with 35 new dates scheduled for this year.
