Tristan Thompson Files Paperwork To Become Brother’s Legal Guardian
Nine months after Tristan Thompson’s mother, Andrea, passed away, the basketball player began filing the documents to become the legal guardian of his 17-year-old brother Amari.
The 32-year-old power forward and center requested that the courts make guardianship legal. Amari cannot take care of himself because of multiple medical conditions which include epilepsy.
As legal guardian, Tristan will become responsible for protecting the assets that his brother inherited when their mother passed away, a sum of $103,475. Note that their biological father, Trevor, has not been present in their lives, making Tristan the only person in their family who can care for Amari.
Andrea passed away in January due to a heart attack. She was 53 years old at the time of her demise. In the days following her death, the athlete’s former partner, Khloe Kardashian, her sister Kim, and mother, Kris Jenner, flew to Toronto to support Tristan.
When Tristan and his brother moved in with Khloe temporarily because Tristan’s house was being renovated at the time, it sparked rumors that Khloe and Tristan may be on the road to reconciliation. However, Khloe insisted that this wasn’t the case and dispelled gossip that they are rekindling their romance.
Khloe clarified during the family’s reality show, “Tristan and I are not back together. I know it’s hard for everyone to believe, but I love love love Andrea, and I love Tristan, I love Amari, and this is what family does.”
She went on to explain, “Tristan is the father of my kids, you know. I’ve lost my dad, and my dad was like a fairy tale parent, but still, I can’t wrap my head around losing my mom, and I know how close Tristan and his mom are, and it’s just heartbreaking, and to be left with the responsibility of another person as well, it’s a lot.”
Khloe also confessed, “I’m grateful that I’m strong enough and brave enough to be a support system for someone else that has no other support system right now. You don’t have to treat me right for me to treat you right. It’s not the way I was raised.”
Khloe and Tristan went their separate ways in 2019 due to Tristan’s infidelity with Jordyn Woods, Kylie’s former best friend.
Before their mother’s death, Andrea was the only caretaker of Amari. Her death meant that Amari would need to move in with his older brother in Los Angeles. Amari has reportedly been experiencing more seizures lately partly due to the massive adjustments following their mother’s passing.
Despite the recent challenges in Tristan’s life, he found the time to express his utmost gratitude to Khloe and her family for being there for him and helping him with his brother. He shared how difficult it was to go to Andrea’s house, pack, sort through photos, and handle the funeral. Still, he said that everything became bearable when the Kardashian ladies showed their support despite their busy schedules.
When Kris was asked about the situation, the Kardashian matriarch mentioned that they would always treat Tristan like family.
