Universal Celebrates a Huge Box-Office Year
Universal has reached an impressive Hollywood milestone by crossing $5 billion at the worldwide box office in 2026. The achievement makes Universal the first film studio to reach that mark this year and only the third time in the studio’s history that it has passed $5 billion in a calendar year.
The studio’s strong performance has been powered by movies from Universal Pictures, Illumination, DreamWorks Animation, and Focus Features. Major titles contributing to the total include The Odyssey, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael, Minions & Monsters, and Obsession.
Universal reported approximately $1.788 billion from the U.S. market and more than $3.2 billion internationally when announcing the milestone. The result highlights the continued ability of major theatrical releases to attract large audiences around the world. For Hollywood, it is another sign that event movies and recognizable stories can still create enormous global interest.
